Interviews: Dirty Slippers

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Rock band Dirty Slippers from Hungary. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?

Even in the seventh grade of elementary school, a teacher bullied me by saying that I would never achieve any success with music. He asked me once in a class when I was already writing lyrics in Hungarian instead of listening, "Lázár, if you say you're going to be a musician, what's the name of your band?" - I said Dirty Slippers! This is funny because these two words were written under each other in my English-Hungarian dictionary. That's how we became one of the funniest bands in the world.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I am happy because my parents showed me excellent music when I was a child. At home, we didn't listen to crappy children's songs, but The Beatles, Dire Straits, and Rolling Stones songs. Then, when I was a teenager, came Oasis, and Green Day, the hottest indie rock and punk rock bands. I never listened to other music and I haven't been open to anything else since then. This is my way.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Not yet, Bebi, our drummer and I searched and found these great musicians! Daniel, our keyboard player and Dominik, our bass player are good fella and great players too, which is important in a band, who are mostly on the road.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Our band members are coming from really different genres. So Bebi, our drummer, really loves jazz artists like Miles Davis and she is a fan of r n b and pop music like Beyoncé or Lady Gaga, but she is the biggest fan of Queen. Our keyboard player Daniel loves Maneskin and some really cool modern rock bands just like jazz musicians too. I think our bass player, Dominik, is a fan of Red Hot Chilli Peppers and me, Lazar, I am the indie rock/punk-rock dude in our band. I am a fan of Oasis and Gallagher brothers, The Beatles, and Dire Straits and nowadays I listen to a lot of Sam Fender, The Sherlocks and The Manatees, which is an amazing upcoming band!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

My idol and main inspiration is Paul McCartney. I really like his emotions and songwriting style. He is the man! About the power of our music: a good friend of mine, Attila (he is a great journalist in Hungary) said to me, your music is punk rock with acoustic guitar elements, which is correct, I bring the acoustic guitar style music from The Beatles "world" and mixed it with power and energy of punk rock like Green Day and indie rock like Sam Fender or Stereophonics. These inspirations are my whole musical world.

6. Where was your last gig?

Last Friday we had an amazing SchoolTour program concert in Budapest (in a high school). We made a special prevention programme against drugs, alcohol and HPV in Middle Europe called the SchoolTour programme. This is a concert and a preventional presentation in high school's sports halls every week. You can find a lot of great videos on our TikTok channel: https://www.tiktok.com/@dirtyslippersband

7. Where would you like to act?

I had some dream places but the Royal Albert Hall, the Isle of Wight Festival and the TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow would be amazing someday :)

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Oh, that's an amazing question! Performing or writing a song with Noel Gallagher and Lewis Capaldi would be mega-cool!

9. Whom not?

I don't like hip-hop or electric acts, so all of these acts.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I was never afraid to go on stage. At a very young age, I already danced folk dances and performed classical pieces at school celebrations. From the first moment, I confess that when you step on stage and stand in front of people, if you give yourself honestly and smile at them, they will see that they make you happy by looking at you and being there with you. It's not a problem if you make mistakes, it's just a feature of live music. I say give it your all on stage, it's okay if you screw something up, because we're people, not machines. It's better for everything to be completely live, with hard energy, authentically, rather than 40 tracks coming from a computer so that you can hide behind it if you make a mistake. Always give your best form and then there will be no problem (not even if your finger slips off the guitar string or if you accidentally pick the wrong note)

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The most inspiring bands of my life are Green Day, Oasis, Goo Goo Dolls and now the great Sum 41. Sadly they will disband this year, which is very sad. I was a teenage guy when I watched "Fat lip" on MTV for the first time and I said, these guys are huge!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Some young girls offered me their virginity. Some girls at the same time wanted a threesome. I was a gentleman and replied to their nice messages and said no. In 2017 a fan of ours followed us in a hotel, where we stayed after a concert. She asked me to marry her in front of the hotel before midnight :D That was so funny :D

13. What do you think of your fans?

I am really happy because we had fans and followers from young generations and from older generations too. This means, a lot of families listen to our music and come to our gigs. I never wanted to play music just only one generation. I believe we are a really loyal band and we always reply to their messages and take photos with the fans, we don't care about who is 14 or 74. We are grateful to everyone.

14. What do you think of our site?

Your site is great and thank you for supporting indie bands! That means a lot!

15. Something to add?

Please like, comment and share our new video clip called "On top of the world". We worked a lot on this song at Abbey Road Studios with the amazing George Shilling and Neil Dawes and our video clip-making team (CreativeFilmCreation - Eszter, Sanyi and Csaba) did an amazing job I am really proud of this video, which mixed our 2 most important mission: School tour programme and making great songs (and album)
