Interviews: Kayleth

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Stoner Rock/Desert Rock band Kayleth from Italy. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

The name of the band comes from a short story by Isaac Asimov. Kayleth precisely is a tale about a tyrant who tries to subdue an entire planet and the inhabitants organize to oust him. We liked it right away and it went well with our passions for science fiction, especially sci-fi style and aliens.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Just because the founders (Enrico and Massimo) loved this genre discovering the Kyuss. They started to find other musicians and after a few, the line-up was completed.

So there are personal influences that come from metal, punk, grunge, hardcore, and a lot of electronic music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Enrico and Massimo were friends before and thanks to the small zone where they lived, they found other band members soon. Now after almost twenty years, we are a family!

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Pink Floyd (Massimo, guitars)
Alice in Chains (Michele, keyboards)
Black Sabbath (Alessandro, bass)
Nirvana (Enrico, voice)
Sepultura (Daniele, drums)

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our songs are often about the reality around us, which is full of lies and a lot of smoke. In the end, we always try to win this inner battle against apathy, that is, to keep on going looking for the things that make us happy. Then we speak about friends, family, and life, trying to put our fears and worries into the music.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played at The Factory venue in Verona (IT) last week, a place that we love, full of friends and people who support live music.

7. Where would you like to act?

Desert Fest is one of our biggest dreams!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Wow, good question! Probably with High on Fire, even if there are many bands we love like Fu Manchu, Dozer, Truckfighters, OM, etc.

9. Whom not?

We think that if a band/musician is a good artist, the important thing is the content and the message, not the genre. So we can play with everybody but not with who is for the war, racism, and cruelty to animals.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

After many shows, we have defeated this fear. Personally (Michele, keyboards) it was connected to the possibility of playing wrongly or missing a song riff so my solution was to rehearse more, and more. The important thing is to understand the reason behind stage fright so you can focus on it, also with the support of professionals.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Black Sabbath, Kyuss, 35007, Gong, Orange Goblin, and many others.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A birthday song written and recorded for the baby of a fan!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans rock because they support us at the shows, purchasing our music and merch, but above all, they give us feedback. This is really important for our music and lyrics.

14. What do you think of our site?

We like it because there is a lot of info and well categorized per genre, country, band, etc. This and the fact that it is constantly updated are important features for those who want info and news.

15. Something to add?

Thanks for this interview and your enormous efforts to support the underground scene, we know that it is not easy. For those who are attending the Bear Stone Fest in July, see you in Croatia!
