Interviews: Adamant

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band Adamant from Panama. Check out the interview and follow the band on their INSTAGRAN PROFILE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

The name “Adamant” appeared first in a synonym list while our guitar player, Christian León, was looking for names related to “strength, resilience, indestructible”. The name beckoned him, and after more research, he found a couple of more interesting definitions:

- “Of unbreakable will and spirit”

- “The unstoppable force and the unmovable object at the same time”

After all these cool associations, the name resonated even more with the personal stories of all three musicians of the band. To add in a couple of extras that DEFINITELY sold us to the name:

- Adamantium is also the name of a mythical metal/mineral said to be indestructible.

- Adamant is also the name of the Ring of Power Galadriel possesses in The Lord of the Rings (The Adamant Ring).

- Christian’s favorite Pokémon is Dragonite, and his preferred nature in-game is “Adamant”.

- Wolverine’s Skeleton is made of the mythical metal “Adamantium”.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It’s hard to define Adamant in just one genre. Our music varies between Rock/Pop, Sometimes adding some electronic sounds, going through Alternative Rock, all the way to Progressive Rock with Metal and Symphonic/Cinematic influences. The BEST WAY TO PUT IT is that we write the music we would like ourselves to hear on streaming platforms/radio.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Oh yeah, big time! Drummer Jacques P. Smith and guitar player Christian León go all the way back to 2009 when they met at school. They have played together in many cover-oriented musical projects since then and a couple of tries with bands writing original music. When those bands fell apart, they always stuck together and decided to continue writing music under the name of Christian León’s Solo Project. Interestingly, they met singer Ian Evers all the way back in 2011, but their paths didn’t cross professionally until Ian sent his audition tape for the recording of “Nueva Rosa” Christian León’s 4th production. In the process of working with Ian, we found in him someone with our vision and goals, not to mention the amazing musical and personal chemistry! Eventually, we decided to formalize the project under a band name: Adamant.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Jacques P. Smith: Periphery

Christian León: Dream Theater

Ian Evers: Panic! At the Disco

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The main songwriter is Christian León and he describes this in one word: Life. What we go through, our stories, our perception and connection of the immensity, if not eternity that surrounds us is more than enough inspiration. Add in a hint of philosophy, spirituality, poetry, and symbology and you have yourself Adamant.

6. Where was your last gig?

Panama City, Panama, in a cool location called “Central Brewery” located on the well-known “Argentina Street”.

7. Where would you like to act?

Our goal is to play and fill the biggest rock venue in the city called “Rock & Folk”

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

There are a couple of bands we would like to share the stage with, one of the themes being “Filtro Medussa”!

9. Whom not?

I mean, nothing personal, but thinking in our rock-oriented audience, I believe that anything in the realm of reggaetón would be off limits haha.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes, of course! “The only way out is through!”. The pressure, and responsibility don’t diminish, in fact, they only get heavier the more professional you are, the thing is, if you have the will, you can learn from mistakes and only get stronger the more you do it! Also, record yourself. Audio and video. ALWAYS. Look at yourself and list everything you can be better and work on that.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Dream Theater, Galneryus, Nightwish, Factor VIII, Rush, Periphery, Green Day, Linkin Park, Blink-182, 30 Seconds to Mars, System of a Down, Bring Me the Horizon, Evanescence, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, Deftones, Breaking Benjamin, The Killers, Foo Fighters, Avenged Sevenfold.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To play shirtless ahah which is not that weird actually.

13. What do you think of your fans?

The reason we keep going. We feel a duty to the people who know us actually and potentially to deliver them the best quality possible in our releases and in live shows.

14. What do you think of our site?

In all honesty, this is our first time here and we didn’t know what to expect at first, but seeing your work and the fact that you give space to emergent bands for them to express what they have to say makes you one of ours immediately! Rock on and keep up the great work!

15. Something to add?

Thank you for your time, hope we talk soon again!
