Behind The Artworks: EARTHBURNER - Permanent Dawn (2024)
As for the story/meaning behind the ALBUM COVER ARTWORK for “Permanent Dawn,” the
cover was done by Fabrice LaVollay, a brilliant artist who lives in Brussels who I was lucky
enough to find and meet years ago.
Fabrice has done artwork and design work for bands like Napalm Death, Brujeria, Jucifer, and
others. He’s also done cover artwork for some authors I really admire like, Graham Masterton,
Poppy Z. Brite, and Robert McCammon among others.
That said, when I approached Fabrice for our album cover, I straight up told him that I wanted to
give a nod to the old & classic album covers of the grindcore bands I worship, like, Terrorizer’s
“World Downfall,” and Napalm Death’s ‘Scum” as examples. Aside from the old school grind
visuals, I also wanted the cover art to embody the overall album “vibe” of our “Permanent
Dawn” album—the sobering darkside of society and the world…the absolute bleak, the darkness,
and to set the tone for the uncompromising savagery of the music behind that album cover, the
concept of which is REAL and again, inspired by the unadulterated attitude you’d takeaway from
numbers from Terrorizer’s “World Downfall” or early Napalm Death or even Slayer’s ‘Reign In
Blood.” Our album cover is black and white and stark and we feel on the level of “optics”
specific to our cover artwork, it already tells you what’s in store with the Earthburner musical
concept/formula/material that is inflexible and embraces that old school pure grindcore/blasting
and super-heavy riffs with a punk attitude as well. THAT theme from the Earthburner cover art to
the music is consistent.
I’d like to add that Fabrice LaVollay also created the new, Earthburner “crust” logo which is
featured on the album cover.
