Behind The Tracks: FLUSH - Dive (Single) (2024)
As all the good songs, ’Dive’ can be interpreted on many levels. Broadly, it’s a song about letting go of your fears and trusting your instincts and deeper desires. The director of the video, Pedro Bergamo, made his own interpretation and wrote a story about a guy trying to save a girl, but eventually, the girl saved herself by being the bitch-ass heroine she was meant to be. Originally the song was called ‘Beach Day’, but all these “beach”, “down to the water”, and “dive” context words are not really about a family day on a sunny beach. It’s a song about sex. The kind of sex and kinks involved will be up to the listener, because, again, it’s all about letting go of your fears and going where your desires take you.
Musically, ‘Dive’ is guitar riff song, and it is written for the stage in a packed, sweaty club. The mid-8 is that short breather people need in between, and the ending of the song definitely took some inspiration from how ‘Would’ by Alice in Chains ends. When we also mention Refused and HIM as the other influencers for the song, it might not make sense to a listener, but for our creative process, those were the key references for how the song came about musically, eventually ending up sounding like Flush.
