Interviews: EXXASENS
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Post-Rock/Post-Metal band EXXASENS from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
The name EXXASENS was inspired by the idea of exploration and discovery. Originally, the project was
intended to be a solo endeavor focused on creating music that captured the feeling of space travel and the
vastness of the cosmos. “EXXA” came from the metric prefix "exa-" (10^18), which signifies something
enormous and limitless, while "SENS" represents the sensory and emotional journey we want our music
to evoke. Over time, the name has grown with the project and represents the connection between vast,
outer worlds and the inner emotional landscapes we explore in our music.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We were drawn to post-rock and post-metal for the way it allows us to express emotions without words.
Instrumental music has a special power to connect deeply, letting each listener create their own story and
interpretation.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
From 2007 to 2011, EXXASENS was a DIY solo project. In 2011, after signing with the label Aloud
Music, we put together a full band with friends from other projects to bring the music to the live stage.
Over the years, the project evolved, with different members contributing their unique styles and ideas.
Finally, in 2022, we formed the current lineup, which feels like the true realization of EXXASENS as a
band.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Each of us brings a unique set of influences to EXXASENS, which adds depth to our sound. Our
drummer, Christian, is a fan of technical metal, from brutal technical death metal to progressive metal,
with bands like Carbomb and Tesseract among his favorites. Xavi, our bassist, has a broad range of tastes,
spanning modern styles and even trap and urban music, though his roots are in rock. His favorite bands
include Punji Trap, Tool, and Lambrea. Carles Sucarrats, our guitarist, is a fan of '90s rock, progressive
rock, and metal, with favorites like A Perfect Circle, Caspian, and Queens of the Stone Age. As for me,
I’m more into synthwave, hardcore, and metalcore, with bands like Biffy Clyro, Bring Me the Horizon,
and Volkor X as my top influences. Together, these diverse tastes blend into the unique sound of
EXXASENS.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our main inspirations come from space, science, and personal introspection. We’re inspired by the
mysteries of the universe and the emotional journeys we all go through in life.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was part of a European tour, where we had the chance to connect with our fans in several
cities across the continent.
7. Where would you like to perform?
We would love to perform in Asia, especially in Japan and China, as well as in the United States. The idea
of reaching new audiences in these places is incredibly exciting.
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
Collaborating with bands like Mogwai, Sigur Rós, or Tides from Nebula would be a dream. We think their
styles would complement ours in a live setting.
9. Whom not?
Honestly, we’re open to many different styles, so there’s no one in particular we wouldn’t want to share
the stage with. We think diversity makes live shows more interesting.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Yes, stage fright happens to the best of us! Our advice is to focus on the music and remember why you’re
there. Deep breathing and visualizing the positive energy from the crowd can also help calm nerves.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Bands like Pink Floyd, Explosions in the Sky, U2, Russian Circles, and Hans Zimmer have had a huge
impact on our sound. We’re inspired by their ability to evoke emotions and tell stories through music.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Our fans are generally very down-to-earth and friendly people. We haven’t really had any unusual or
strange requests from them. Instead, we feel lucky to have a community that’s warm, supportive, and
genuinely connected to our music.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans mean everything to us. They’re incredibly supportive and passionate, and they give us the
motivation to keep creating. Their feedback and connection to our music inspire us every day.
14. What do you think of our site?
We love Breathing The Core! It’s a fantastic platform for connecting bands and fans, and it does a great
job of showcasing artists from around the world. Thank you for giving bands like ours a voice.
15. Something to add?
Thank you to everyone who’s been part of our journey so far! We hope our latest album, INFINITUM,
continues to take listeners on a meaningful journey. And to all musicians out there—never stop exploring
and pushing boundaries!
