Behind The Scenes: THE BLASTS - Big Gun (Official Video)
THE BLASTS guitarist/vocalist Sean Dolstad states - "Big Gun is simply a rant on gun violence involving the kids of Seattle. It's so common now to see reports on a dead 12 year old shot while hanging out at a park. I live in an economically depressed area of Seattle where shootings are happening all day and every day. The worst part of that is most of them are kids. Kids in gangs or kids that think they're in gangs. The problem isn't leaving town. The problem is ignored. South Seattle is a crappy, violent place to live for the majority of people that live there. The landscape has shifted and it continues to be ignored by the city & state.
The riff is simple and reminded me of KISS. KISS would say something smart ass and cheeky like "Love Gun" so the two things melted together. Big Gun is a 70's party song with cryptic lyrics about a sensitive subject. I like to play it. I'm not a fan of the subject matter and the struggles I see around me."
The "Big Gun" video was shot by Chris Schanz. Black and white has always been my go to for pictures and video. We shot it in a few hours in a SODO rehearsal space. Its raw and stupid vibe kind of sums up the ridiculous subject matter. I wanted to capture what we act like live and Chris did a great job in a short amount of time.
