Interviews: Destinity
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Death Metal band Destinity from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?
The band name, Destinity, came from a mix of “destiny” and “eternity,” reflecting our concept of the eternal struggle of the human soul. It wasn’t planned in advance; it came about organically, aligning with our themes of fate and the journey through life's dark moments, and to be honest we were teenagers (Laughs).
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
We gravitated toward extreme and melodic music, but since 2005, our sound has evolved into powerful melodic death metal. This genre allows us to express both aggression and emotion, combining fast riffs with deep melodies. It felt like the perfect fit to represent the themes we explore, such as pain, struggle, and transcendence.
3.Did you know each other before forming the band?
No, only former members Florent, Stephan Barboni, and I knew each other before starting the band, and we had a long history of musical collaborations. Other members joined us in 2008/2009, and last year, Florent "Zaimar" became our new drummer. This connection helped create a solid foundation for Destinity.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
While we all have different influences, we can all agree on bands like Dark Tranquillity, Hypocrisy, Paradise Lost, and In Flames. These bands have shaped our sound and approach to melodic death metal.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We draw inspiration from the human experience: pain, loss, personal growth, and the strength to keep going. It’s about finding meaning in hardship, and this is something we all relate to deeply. Our songwriting reflects our own inner battles and the journey of the soul.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was in Brest, France, and it was an amazing experience. The crowd was incredible, and it’s always inspiring to connect with fans on stage.
7. Where would you like to perform in the future?
We dream of performing at larger festivals, particularly those that have an appreciation for melodic death metal and where we haven’t played before, like Wacken Open Air. We also look forward to expanding our reach to new countries and visiting our fans across the USA.
8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?
We’d love to collaborate and support bands like Dark Tranquillity, and Hypocrisy Their songwriting is truly inspiring, and a collaboration would be an incredible experience.
9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?
We dream of performing at larger festivals, particularly those that have an appreciation for melodic death metal and where we haven’t played before, like Wacken Open Air. We also look forward to expanding our reach to new countries and visiting our fans across the USA.
10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips for beginners on overcoming it?
We’ve all had moments of nerves, especially early on. The best tip we can offer is to focus on the music and connect with the crowd. Remember that the audience is there to enjoy the show, not to judge, and once you’re on stage, the energy of the moment takes over.
11. Which bands have influenced you the most?
Bands like Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity, Insomnium, Hypocrisy, old songs from In Flames, and At the Gates have been major influences. They’ve shaped the way we approach songwriting, with a focus on melody, technicality, and emotional depth.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We've had some interesting fan requests over the years, but one of the most unusual was when a fan wanted to buy our old backdrops (laughs). It's always surprising to see how deeply people connect with the music!
13. What do you think of your fans?
We are incredibly grateful for our fans. Their passion and support mean everything to us. It’s amazing to see how our music resonates with people, and we deeply value the connection we share with them.
14. What do you think of our site?
We think your site is a great platform for metal fans to connect and discover new bands. It’s always exciting to see the scene grow, and we appreciate the work you do to promote the genre and support up-and-coming bands. Thank you!
15. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
We’re really excited about our upcoming album, Ascension, set to release in April 2025, and we look forward to connecting with our fans on tour in the near future. Thank you for supporting the band, and we hope to see you at one of our shows soon!
