Interviews: TIGERLEECH
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Stoner Metal/Sludge Metal/Hardcore band TIGUERLEECH from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
Hi Breathing the Core. In 2013, when we started the band, we wanted a real “stoner” name. So I checked a word around the theme
of swamps, and leeches were the perfect animal!!!! Looking around the net, I come across Tigerleech. She's black and yellow like a
tiger, is super aggressive, and attacks crabs. She lives in the sea but the name was cool.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I (Sheby, singer) was looking for a new band. After doing hard-core punk and thrash metal bands, this style really appealed to me. I
found a guitarist. His sister's boyfriend was a drummer, so he found a bass player. TIGERLEECH was born.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
I'm the only one who's been here from the start. Fabien (guitarist) arrived in 2015... After that, we changed bassist and drummer
frequently. The band has been stable since 2022. Fingers crossed :-)
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Adrien (drums): Meshuggah
Fabien (guitar): Alice in Chains
Yvan (guitar): Igorr
Hanz (Bass): Dream Theater
Sheby (singer): Bad Brains
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Many styles of rock from punk to metalcore. We all listen to different kinds of sound (rock, hip-hop, jazz, …)
6. Where was your last gig?
It was in Bruxelles on 12-14 with two Belgium bands. It was really cool but not enough people showed up.
7. Where would you like to act?
Everywhere in the all fuckin’ world… maybe a tour in Asia will be great!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
If you mean to do a show… the answer is the bands we like (answer 11)
9. Whom not?
A band with ideas radically opposed to ours.... extreme right-wing assholes for example.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Of course, it is, and it's better that way. Stage fright is natural and healthy. If you don't have any problems with the first two songs and
you stay focused, nothing will happen to you. The more you play, the more essential the stage becomes and the more you master
the little problems.
If you're a young band, you have to prepare your show well in your rehearsal room. On the day of the concert, you also need to
warm up. You drink beers afterward (LOL).
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
For each one of us because we have our differences:
Adrien (drums): Meshuggah, Periphery, Opeth, Loathe
Fabien (guitar): Alice in chains, Mastodon, Down, Pantera
Yvan (guitar): Igorr, Insanity alert, The Dillinger escape plan, HAH
Hanz (Bass): Dream theater, Marilion, Pain of salvation
Sheby (singer): Bad Brains, Red Fang, Quicksand, Yob
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
To play a Michael Jackson song… no I’m joking. No, one has ever asked us to do anything weird.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We're not Slayer, we don't have thousands of fans at the moment. The people we meet when we play are always friendly,
congratulating us or not telling us anything if they don't like it...
14. What do you think of our site?
I took a look at your site. It's huge, comprehensive and interesting. You talk about so many bands, it's a huge job. congratulations.
15. Something to add?
Just a huge thank you to you for announcing the release of our video and the interview. We hope we've been able to interest your
readers in listening to TIGERLEECH. A second clip will be released in February and the album at the end of March. I hope we'll be
talking again.
Thank you so much Breathing the Core.
