Behind The Tracks: Endless Dive - Petit Bain (Single) (2024)
Nathan: The story of this track began when I found a tape of my great-grandmother, on which she recited songs and poems from her time. As a kid, I remember her singing the story of a little man coming back from the woods, with a different part of his donkey’s body each time.
After over an hour of strange songs dealing with life’s hardships, violence toward women, (and also a song about King Dagobert between all of these)... There was no sign of the song that had marked my childhood.
But another song caught my attention.
The story of a little girl who begs, and despite her difficult situation, keeps her childlike spirit and manages to have fun under the gaze of an indifferent passerby (original text by Eugène Manuel).
It felt like a slap in the face, reminding me to have heart and making me realize how beautiful my own childhood had been.
Pierre had sent me a guitar riff earlier that I thought was really cool. I put it over my great-grandmother’s voice, and that’s how we started working on this track.
