Interviews: Abelcain

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Metal band Abelcain from the UK. Check out the interview and enjoy it!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

AbelCain actually came from Toby our bass player, whenever we came to him for ideas or lyrics he tended to make it about God or religion which we weren't too keen on but when he said 'What about AbelCain?' It really stuck.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

When we first started the band we were all really getting into the metal genre and thought if we wrote one song in this genre we could just change to something else if we didn't like it, luckily it became what we loved most.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Me (Ben), and both Jack Cowell and Palmer were all in the same music technology class in college, Palmer dropped out in the second year but me and Cowell stayed and met Toby who was in the year below.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Ben - Pantera/Arctic Monkeys

Jack Cowell - Pantera/Acid Bath

Toby - Pine Grove/Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Jack Palmer - Pantera/Megadeth

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Just each other's ideas to be fully honest, we take a lot of inspiration from the 80s and 90s metal and just try to create heavy riffs with melodic choruses that will go down great with a live crowd.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at a great little venue in Middlesbrough named Cafe Etch. We supported Ossuary alongside Sulphide who are both fantastic. The gig went down very well as people seemed to jell with our heavy songs.

7. Where would you like to act?

We always said that we wanted to play Download Festival in the near future, that would be a dream come true for all of us.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

A more realistic artist would definitely be Skindred, they are incredible. If it could be anyone we'd definitely choose Pantera, working with Phil and Rex would be crazy.

9. Whom not?

I don't think an AbelCain/Sabrina Carpenter concert would go down so well. But if that's what the people want we'd be all for it.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I definitely got stage fright even when doing a soundcheck for our debut gig, but that happens to everyone and I wouldn't worry about getting stage fright on your first couple of gigs because it happens. If I could say anything I'd say just enjoy yourself, after playing that first song on the setlist, the adrenaline kicks in so just enjoy the music you're playing with the band and the energy will drift into the crowd.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

All of us are mainly inspired by Pantera, but we take certain bands for certain songs such as Slipknot, Metallica and Iron Maiden.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Someone once asked us to do a cover of Ram Ranch. If you know, you know, if you don't, good.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We couldn't have asked for better fans, they always bring the highest energy at our gigs and we can't wait to see them all again at our next venue.

14. What do you think of our site?

We couldn't thank you more for allowing us onto such a mint website, having our biography and interview next to great bands around the world feels surreal.

15. Something add?

Stream our single Indulge on all platforms. Don't miss us at The Georgian Theatre in Stockton on the 29th of March and thank you so much for allowing us this chance!
