Interviews: The Aurora
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Post-Hardcore band The Aurora from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?
I think the idea came quite naturally. "The Aurora" sounded good, and it also refers to the aurora borealis, which is
one of the most beautiful natural spectacles in the world. It aligns well with the music and mood we aim to create.
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
Both Paul and Ricky have always been part of this musical movement.
Ricky was more into punk rock but also metal, while Paul has always been active in the metalcore and post-hardcore scene of our hometown.
So, we've been immersed in this sound for a long time.
3. Did you know each other before forming the band?
Yes, absolutely. We've known each other for many years—probably more than 20.
We've even shared the stage with our respective bands in the past.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
As for Paul, his favorite bands are Deftones, Architects, and Tool—those are his all-time favorites.
Ricky absolutely loves Propagandhi, Counterparts, A Wilhelm Scream, and a lot of skate-punk stuff.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our main inspiration comes from nature and everything that humanity is gradually destroying.
We try to communicate in a simple and direct way all the things that are disappearing right before our eyes.
6. Where was your last gig? Where would you like to perform in the future?
We've mainly played in key venues across Emilia-Romagna, but we'd love to perform in bigger settings as well.
Hopefully, we’ll be able to organize something in the future.
7. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with? Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate
with?
Oh, there are so many!
Collaborating with Architects would be amazing. But honestly, we’re open to any kind of collaboration.
8. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips for beginners on overcoming it?
For me (Paul), I always feel anxious before performing. By now, it has become a constant for me. But after the first
few notes, everything fades away, and it all flows smoothly.
For me (Ricky), it has never been a big problem. I tend to take things as they come and always try to adapt to the
situation. Anxiety can be a tough beast, but luckily, I’m not someone who feels it that much.
So my advice is, take a deep breath, don't think too much and just do it and I'm sure that everything will be great.
9. Which bands have influenced you the most?
For me (Paul), definitely the previously mentioned Deftones, Architects, and Tool.
(Ricky) For this project, specifically, I took inspiration from all the bands that mix super heavy and hardcore parts and
melodic lines, so for example Architects, but also Polaris, The Ghost Inside, etc. I always feel amazed by this mix of scream/growl vocal lines and heavy guitars but also melodic parts.
10. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for? What do you think of your fans?
Honestly, we’ve never received any weird requests. Our fans have always appreciated what we've done over the
years. We have a pretty chill audience.
They are essential for us to keep creating new material. They are the reason this project works and is growing so well.
So, a huge thank you to everyone who supports and follows us!
11. What do you think of our site?
Always amazing and super cool actually.
Giving space to cool bands and underground bands need it.
So thanks to Breathing the Core, for your job and your commitment.
12. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
It's always a pleasure to be here and do this interview.
We wanna thank you and all the people that follow us and support us.
Thanks to our label Too Loud Records, to our families, and for always fighting for a world of nature a peace.
