Interviews: Rare Breed

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk/Grunge band Rare Breed from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

The band name came from our original bassist's brother. We’d been searching for a name for months but nothing stuck, at one point the name “Are you going to eat that…?” It was suggested and we’re so glad we never went with it haha. But one day he came in and told us his brother suggested a rare breed and it’s stuck ever since.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We decided to play the genre that is shown on the ep because it’s a style of music we all grew up on and spent our teenage years listening to. We hope to inspire the same feeling of nostalgia we got from writing it in our audience when they listen to it.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

3 of us all met in secondary school when we started the band so we’ve always known each other, and even we’ve known Nero since we started gigging as he was at a lot of our earliest gigs with him being a big figure in the local scene, so we all knew each other prior to starting the band.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Alex - Title Fight/Knocked Loose/Blink 182 (can’t pick haha)

Jack - Acid Bath/Pantera

Patrick - Pierce the Veil / blink182 / Real Friends

Nero - Taking Back Sunday

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We get inspired to write songs based on the events that happen around us. Each song off the EP is based on a specific event that we’ve experienced, with That I Dreamed On focusing on fear of growing up and a yearning to change the past and fix your regrets, Could You Ever Be Happy focuses on not feeling good about yourself and desperately craving approval and validation from others, and Out Of The Question looks at the end of a toxic relationship from the perspective of being glad that it’s over and that the person who caused you grief is out of your life.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig as of writing this was Little Buildings on the 3rd of November, which was the final date of our most recent mini-tour. It went surprisingly well and was one of the most interactive and fun crowds we’ve ever experienced.

7. Where would you like to act?

If we can play O2 Academy at some point we can die happy.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

If Vic Fuentes ever wants to hop on a track he’s got the go-ahead immediately.

9. Whom not?

We’d hate to play with Taylor Swift, mostly because I (Alex) am scared of heights and I’d hate to be on her private jet

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

The best way to deal with stage fright is to just have 2-3 drinks beforehand. It is not enough to be hammered but enough to give you the confidence to not care what people think and to be yourself on stage.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The bands that have inspired us for this EP are Title Fight, Neck Deep, Pierce the Veil, Three Days Grace, Creed, Silverstein, Enter Shikari, Blink182, Sum 41, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Nirvana, The Used and Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtracks.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

When we were trying to get rid of our backlog of merch at a recent gig, we put on a discount so that the shirts cost £5, and someone was absolutely begging us to do them a 2 for 7 deal which would have put us at actively losing money on the shirts and they still were hounding us after we explained this.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We absolutely love our fans they mean the world to us. We’ve had fans come up to us and say things to us that we never even dreamed of as a band and it always makes our day that we’ve been able to make an impact on people. At the end of the day, without fans we’d just be playing to empty rooms so there’d be no band without them.

14. What do you think of our site?

We absolutely love your site and wanted to thank you for what you do for bands and fans alike.

15. Something to add?

Something to add is, we’ve got some tricks up our sleeve so look out for our next releases. If you think you know us, no you don’t.
