Interviews: Salvaguardia
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Hardcore Punk band Salvaguardia from Colombia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like
that?
The name "Salvaguardia" came after long conversations between the founders, Yesid Hernández
(bassist) and Andrey Feo (guitarist). We wanted a name that represented protection, strength, and
power.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We chose hardcore because it gives us a versatility that other genres might not offer. It's a fast,
technically demanding style with a strong community of fans who promote values we share: loyalty,
friendship, tolerance, and respect.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
The band's beginnings trace back to Yesid Hernández and Andrey Feo, who have been friends
since school. Over the years, different musicians have been part of the band. Andrés Mancera
joined after seeing an open call on social media when we were looking for a new vocalist. Later,
Walter Bustos joined us—he was a musician from a band close to ours. Finally, Esteban
Hernández, our rhythm guitarist and Yesid’s brother, became part of the band.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Each member's favorite band: Yesid, Andrés, and Andrey love Iron Maiden. Esteban prefers
Sepultura, and Walter is a fan of Mayhem. Our diverse tastes have allowed us to explore different
sounds within hardcore. Of course, we love other bands from different genres, but we’ll never forget
the ones that first inspired us.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our inspiration comes from experiences we’ve lived. We can’t turn a blind eye to the realities of the
world—violence, wars, inequality. All of this fuels our songwriting.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was at the Suarock festival, held in Soacha—the town where we were born and where
the band was formed.
7. Where would you like to act?
We dream of playing at festivals like Rock al Parque, Altavoz Fest, and international events such as
100% Hardcore or Wacken.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We would love to collaborate with our favorite bands, even though we know it’s almost impossible.
Within the hardcore scene, we’d love to work with Sick of It All, Madball, or Agnostic Front.
9. Whom not?
We would never collaborate with any band that promotes hate.
10 Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to
beat that?
Stage fright? Yeah, we all feel nervous before playing. But that fear reminds us we’re alive. What
helps us is talking as a band before going on stage, reminding each other why we’re here—to do
what we love and, most importantly, to have fun. That fills us with confidence.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Bands that have recently inspired us: Rise of the Northstar, Slipknot, and Malevolence. They’ve
helped us improve our performance and enhance the experience we deliver to our fans.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
The weirdest fan request: After a gig in Ibagué, a fan asked for a piece of our clothing. The
problem? The vocalist had just finished the show and his shirt was drenched in sweat… but the fan
still wanted it. Trust us, it didn’t smell great.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are crazy, but they understand the message of loyalty we spread. Many of them started
as fans and became close friends, which is how we built what we call SGACRW.
14. What do you think of our site?
We love how you support bands in spreading their music. Spaces like this are
harder to find every day, and it’s important to highlight them to help the scene grow.
15. Something to add?
Final words: Don’t forget to follow us on all our social media! We’re @salvaguardiaofficial on
Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, Deezer, Instagram, and Facebook.
