Track By Tracks: Age Of Fire - From The Forge (2025)
When coming up with an album title I wanted to play on the band name "Age of Fire" and the creative process and it led me to thinking about forging. Such a tedious, consuming process that is done out of love for the end result. And that's what we did. "From the Forge" was a labor of love and also loved the imagery of the forge creating something metal :)
Track listing:
1. Bats in the Belfry- We got our inner prog out on this one. The intro is in the style of "Castlevania" with the synths then the band comes in. This is a fun jam and we thought a cool different opener for the album than the norm. We love instrumentals.
2. Amongst the Shadows:
Back to our thrash roots. This is a total headbanger with a heavy mosh part in the middle. The subject matter is all about those things that go bump in the night that we never truly see. Boo!!!!
3. The Front:
This is a tune about warfare and all its grimness. It tells the story of a soldier and his platoon, things do not end well for them. (Spoiler) We did a nice clean breakdown in the middle then it picks back up for the 3rd verse and chorus.
Definitely structurally different for us. We like to play around with song structures quite a bit. The unexpected. The song should be a journey and this war epic takes us along for a ride.
4. Twin Flame:
This was recorded at Sun Studios in Memphis. The only track on the album that was. It was part of another project I was working on and felt it was appropriate and a fitting lead into Ghostly Tears. The concept of a twin flame goes beyond your soul mate. It can take lifetimes to wind up together. Harmonically, the tune is based on 7th and 9th chords and never really resolves. Nerdy stuff :)
5. Ghostly Tears:
This is one of our favorites on the album. A heavy ballad then kicks in in the middle to return to the chorus and end. The concept is about ghosts that we have all heard about through the centuries, wailing and howling in torment. Imagine going through that over the ages. What could cause such pain? Loss? That's what the premise of this song was :)
6. Book of Five Rings:
Inspired by the book of the same name by the great samurai Mushashi. This is a book on strategy and warfare. Great read! Each verse is a translation of the text with an Age of Fire chorus. This is definitely the doomiest tune we have yet in our catalog.
7. Light in the Darkness:
Wanted to write a song of hope. This world has been a bit whacky the past few years and we've all had our moments. The "light" in the title is whatever brings the listener hope. Dug out the old acoustic on this one. Wanting to expand the sonic palette of the band.
8. Sons of Bannockburn:
The other instrumental on the album. This tune is in 6/8 and has quite the jig feel to it. The song is dedicated to the sons of the battle of Bannockburn which won Scotland its independence from England in 1314 and made Robert the Bruce King of Scotland.
9. Mental Beast:
The track is about how we can be our worst enemies. This track is heavy and with a groove. Just how we like it \m/
10. The Rebel:
This track closes the album and is a metal extravaganza. Starts fast, then heavy stank face groove, builds more then the song bit starts which is fast with a bit of a punky vibe. The character of the tune was inspired by Judas Priests's "The Sentinel."
