Track By Tracks: Terra Mortis - Siege Of Blood (2025)
I created Siege of Blood with a very specific sound in mind, shaping the album around an intense and raw atmosphere. When I first started working on the project, I had a conversation with my great childhood friend, Pedro D-Void, about the band's name, the album title, and the lyrical concept. He suggested the main idea for the lyrics, which immediately caught my interest. From there, I did some research on Google to deepen my understanding of the topic, which allowed me to develop the band's name, the album title, and all the lyrics. I also carefully chose a name for each song to align with the overall theme.
Once the concept was fully formed, I locked myself in my studio and created the entire album, composing, recording, and producing every track to bring the vision to life. After completing the main structure of the songs, I sent the recordings to Pedro D-Void, who added his signature touch by performing all the guitar solos, elevating the album’s intensity and atmosphere.
This album is a sonic representation of some of the most violent and catastrophic moments in human history. Each track captures the brutality, chaos, and suffering that war, conquest, and plague have inflicted on civilizations. Here’s a deeper look at each song:
1.Carnage in the Colosseum:
This track brings to life the violent gladiatorial games of ancient Rome, where the lives of men were treated as expendable entertainment. The song’s raw, unflinching lyrics reflect the brutal, godless spectacle that took place in the Colosseum, where the cries of the fallen were ignored by the powerful elite. The imagery of "kill or be killed" encapsulates the savage mentality of survival in the face of death. The chaotic and destructive riffs mirror the madness of the arena, creating a sonically violent backdrop for the lyrics.
2. Bloodsoaked Crusade:
A critique of religious hypocrisy, Bloodsoaked Crusade challenges the concept of holy wars fought in the name of religion. The song’s aggressive tone and visceral imagery depict the gruesome acts carried out during the Crusades, killing, pillaging, and burning in the name of salvation. Through the words “Burn the infidels,” the track highlights the extreme violence and contradiction of using faith to justify mass slaughter. The combination of thrashing guitars and intense drumming paints a soundscape that feels as chaotic as the historical events themselves.
3. Donbas Devastation:
In this brutal commentary on the ongoing conflict in Eastern Ukraine, Donbas Devastation paints a bleak picture of the destruction of Donbas, torn apart by war and caught between conflicting sides. The track’s anguished vocals and pounding drums reflect the pain and hopelessness of the people caught in this never-ending cycle of violence. It exposes the apathy of the global community, leaving the region to burn. The song’s relentless, punishing sound mirrors the heavy toll war takes on civilians who suffer most in these godless wars.
4. Geronimo's Revenge:
This track honors the spirit of Geronimo and the resistance of the Native American people against colonial invaders. It brings forth a sense of revenge and defiance, calling for the reclaiming of land and honor lost to the greed of settlers. The visceral imagery of "Scalp the bastards take their skin" is both an expression of the intense pain caused by the invasion and a powerful cry for justice. The relentless rhythm and sharp, biting guitar work reflect the fiery rage of the oppressed, ready to fight back against the forces that stole everything from them.
5. Inca Empire's Annihilation:
The fall of the Inca Empire is revisited in this track, recounting the arrival of Spanish conquerors and the subsequent destruction of a rich and proud civilization. The lyrics speak of betrayal, greed, and the crushing of a nation in the name of gold and glory. The somber tone and heavy riffs create a sense of loss and destruction, as the song captures the brutality of colonization. The repeated line, “We were gods, they called us heathens,” reflects the dehumanizing attitudes of the invaders as they sought to erase the Inca’s cultural heritage.
6. Plague of the Black Death:
A track inspired by one of the deadliest pandemics in human history, Plague of the Black Death encapsulates the chaos, terror, and widespread death caused by the plague. The imagery of “Rats in the streets, blood in the air” brings to life the horror of the disease that decimated Europe, while the “silent killer” that “creeps everywhere” becomes an all-encompassing force. The relentless drumming and crushing guitar tones evoke the suffocating despair and violence of a world falling apart under the weight of disease, war, and suffering.
7. Slaughter of the Innocents:
This track draws from the atrocities committed during the Crusades and other religious wars, where innocent lives were sacrificed in the name of faith. The song condemns the twisted use of religion as an excuse for violence, using lines like “Crosses raised high, dripping in red” to emphasize the hypocrisy of those who kill in the name of salvation. The relentless pace and thrashing guitars create an intense, almost frantic energy, mirroring the mindless slaughter of the innocent and the cold cruelty of religious dogma.
8 .Trench Warfare Terror:
In Trench Warfare Terror, the brutality of World War I comes to life through the graphic depiction of life in the trenches. The song’s haunting atmosphere and heavy, dissonant chords conjure the suffocating feeling of being trapped in a never-ending war, with mud, blood, and death surrounding every soldier. The repetition of "Trench terror, death's embrace" emphasizes the horror of a conflict where survival was uncertain and victory, fleeting. The song is a stark reminder of the madness and futility of war.
9. Viking Raid Apocalypse:
This track takes listeners on a violent journey through Viking raids, depicting the terror and chaos brought by the seafaring warriors. The lyrics conjure the image of Viking longships cutting through the seas, bringing devastation to unprepared villages. The intense rhythm and pounding drums evoke the relentless nature of the raids, where no mercy is shown, and everything is taken. The track’s imagery of fire, blood, and steel echoes the savagery of the time, a time when the gods of war seemed to reign supreme.
Terra Mortis takes listeners on a journey through the darkest chapters of human history, using music and lyrics to give voice to the atrocities of war, conquest, and violence. The album’s raw sound and brutal honesty aim to provoke thought, inspire reflection, and remind us of the cost of bloodshed. The tracks, with their powerful, relentless energy, bring history's most horrific events into the present, urging listeners to never forget the past and to recognize the pain it continues to cause.
