Interviews: The Ancient Arrival
On this new occasion, we had the chance to interview the Deathcore band The Ancient Arrival from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or came out like that?
The name 'The Ancient Arrival' came from a brainstorming session. We wanted something that conveyed an idea of the unknown and something powerful that's about to happen, but in a past perspective. It represents our arrival on the extreme music, a force that cannot be ignored. It was a mix of planning and that spark of inspiration that just clicked.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Deathcore allows us to express a raw and visceral intensity, and also is the main genre we have in mind when we write music. We're drawn to the combination of Death Metal's brutality with Hardcore's breakdowns. It's the perfect way to channel our emotions and unleash explosive energy on stage.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Some of us already started the band in 2018 and others came after when we were searching for new members. We share a passion for extreme music and the need to create something of our own. When Edu joined the band almost two years ago, we immediately started a new chapter that brought us to the present day.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
This is tricky, we have varied tastes, but to give you an idea the main influences are: Thy Art Is Murder, Lorna Shore, Whitechapel, Fit For An Autopsy, Chelsea Grin, Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Waking the Cadaver, Shrine of Malice and many more
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We're inspired by personal experiences, social injustices, the darkness of the human condition. We also feed on literature, film, and, of course, the music we're passionate about. We want our lyrics to be a reflection of reality, but also an escape valve for our frustrations.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was at a huge club in Malaga, Spain, a night of pure energy and controlled chaos! The crowd gave it their all!
7. Where would you like to act?
We'd love to play at big European festivals like Resurrection Fest or Hellfest. We'd also like to tour Europe and Latin America, where we know there's a very strong Deathcore scene.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
It would be a dream to collaborate with bands we mentioned before, but we know it's very difficult. We played with some bands like Inhuman Architects last year in Portugal and it was awesome. That's the kind of band that we love and are very similar to us. A collaboration with some bands like them would be a sonic bomb.
9. Whom not?
We prefer not to name anyone specifically. We simply don't see ourselves collaborating with artists who don't share our vision and passion for extreme music.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Sure, we've all felt those nerves before going on stage. The important thing is to channel that energy into the performance. Preparation is key: rehearse a lot, know the songs well, and have confidence in yourself. It also helps to visualize the concert and connect with the audience. And above all, remember that we're there to enjoy and share our music.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Our biggest influences are pioneering Deathcore bands like Suicide Silence, Carnifex, or Chelsea Grin. We're also inspired by more recent bands like Signs of the Swarm, Aborted, Mental Cruelty or Angelmaker to mention some.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Once, a fan asked us to sign a bottle of hot sauce. It was quite unexpected, but we had a good laugh!
13. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are the fuel of our work. Their support drives us forward. We're very grateful for their energy and passion when they see us live. They're the best!
14. What do you think of your site?
We think it's great that there are spaces like this that support the underground music scene. It's important that fans have access to information about emerging bands like us. Thank you for your support!
15. Something to add?
Keep an eye out for 'Disillusion Devastation' our new EP! It'll be out very soon, and we can't wait for you to hear it. See you at the shows!
