Behind The Artworks: The Funeral March - It All Falls Apart (2025)
Of all the cover art that I’ve created over the past 26+ years, the artwork for “It All Falls
Apart” was one of my most poignant projects to work on. I had been in talks with my
friend Joe Whiteaker about art ideas before his untimely passing in May 2024 (RIP Joe).
After his passing, Darius McCaskey and I continued throwing ideas back and forth
about the art, and the cover came into being several days later. I listened to the tracks
from the EP on repeat as I created this and felt that there was a visceral connection
between the music and the art, as I sadly listened to Joe’s voice and watched the cover
come into being.
Featuring many layers of textures (as all my work does), the peaceful resting face is
prevalent, as is the solitary figure standing in the corner. As I was making this, I
imagined Joe as that figure… looking into the distance, preparing to embark on his next
journey. The Tarot card, which had previously been discussed as a possible element,
just seemed to fit right in with the rest of the collage. I hope that my visual
representation of the music serves as a fitting tribute to the music that Joe and the band
created. More of my artwork can be seen at https://www.eleven12design.com.
