Interviews: Double Experience
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band Double Experience from Canada. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
The name “Double Experience” was inspired by the “double experience weekends” that would occur within video games like Call of Duty. At the outset of forming a band, if we weren’t playing video games while chatting about writing songs, we were writing songs while daydreaming about the next video game session.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We didn’t really know we were playing “nerd rock” until having to do press. The lyrical subject matter we were drawn to felt more honest to us than the cliche rock lyrics about getting wasted.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
The two of us first met while playing in different bands. We just used that “way back” website to confirm we were both in each other’s band Top 6 Friends on MySpace, which definitely says a lot about how long we’ve actually known each other.
4. Each band member’s favorite band?
Ian has a tie between Led Zeppelin and Genesis, while Brock likes Queens of the Stone Age.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We’re inspired to make music that makes others feel some kind of joy. Cathartic joy, or motivational joy. Out of all the things we nerd out about, the craft of songwriting is probably the topic we revel in the most.
6. Where was your last gig?
In 2024, we did our 7th annual hometown concert called “Jet Black Weekend”. No other show we play is quite like it regarding our freedom to experiment with our setlist and celebrate the year with our fans.
7. Where would you like to act?
Off-broadway sounds fun.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We already had the ideal feature with our friend Joliet4, who sang Philip Bailey’s part on our cover of “Easy Lover”.
9. Whom not?
The vocalist for Hatebeak. He won’t even perform onstage with his own band. Total diva.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Feeling nervous when going on stage means that there is something at stake. Make peace with that feeling, and you’ll always be able to summon a memorable show.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
I think a band like Coheed and Cambria is proof of what happens when you march to the beat of your own drum. They can tour anywhere in the world to perform to devoted fans, and they never compromised the details that made them who they are in the process.
12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Critical feedback on their fan fiction.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We owe them the world! Without them, we’re just two guys staring at a blank wall, hallucinating.
14. What do you think of our site?
Any straight-up metal website that welcomes a dorky rock band like ours is pretty cool in our books.
15. Something to add?
This might be divisive, but our go-to move is subtracting or taking away things. The more you add, the more you obscure the matter at hand.
