Interviews: SVNTH

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Experimental Metal band SVNTH from Italy. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or come out just like that?

Before changing to SVNTH in 2020, the original name was “Seventh Genocide.” This name was intended as an environmental metaphor, comparing the exploitation of resources and the massacre of animals and humans to genocide. Eventually, we changed the name to SVNTH (pronounced “Seventh”) because this spelling aligned better with our musical concept. We also wanted to avoid misunderstandings associated with the term "genocide," which could be incorrectly interpreted as supporting pro-war ideas that we all vehemently condemn.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

This project is not intended to adhere to any genre limitations; the music that we play is just inspired by different listening experiences and the process of putting emotions into music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The line-ups of the band have changed several times over the years, involving many people I knew before and others I met because of the band. However, focusing on the band's formation, the answer is yes. The original core consists of me and former guitarist Stefano. We have known each other since we were five years old, and I started playing music because he was already able to play the guitar. We both wanted to form a band together.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

It's impossible to answer since there are too many influences. However, the band that has inspired me the most in the music I play with SVNTH is Agalloch.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Most inspiration comes from life experiences and personal reflections; however, some songs are also inspired by movies, books, and events.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was in Rome, Italy, our hometown, alongside Shores of Null.

7. Where would you like to act?

We are always excited to perform live, especially at events that offer a diverse lineup of bands that sound different from one another.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Currently, we don’t have any specific ideas or plans. However, in the past, we collaborated with artists such as Marco Soellner from Klimt 1918 and Colin Marston on some of our songs. It was truly amazing to have them involved.

9. Whom not?

We are generally open to collaborations, except with artists whose views are incompatible with ours.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

While I don’t have specific tips to share, I can say that as soon as we start playing and see the audience's reactions, fear dissipates.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

It's challenging to pinpoint specific influences since everyone has their own personal tastes. Overall, the band's music has been shaped by a wide array of bands and records. Some notable influences include Agalloch, Alcest, Deafheaven, Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Ulver, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Brutus, Fall of Efrafa, For Against, The Chameleons, and Swans.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

He was probablyn't a fan, but he was just someone attending the show. There was a moment at a show in Spain where someone asked one of us if he understood Spanish. After he replied that he didn't, the Spanish guy offered him drugs in Spanish. When he turned down the offer by saying “no,” the guy responded, “So you do understand Spanish.”

13. What do you think of your fans?

It’s always a special feeling to know that there are people who enjoy our music and emotionally relate to it.

14. What do you think of our site?

Focusing on artwork is a really original idea. I wish you the best, guys.

15. Something to add?

Thank you for dedicating this space to us. Our album Pink Noise Youth will be released on April 18th via These Hands Melt.
