Interviews: Tooth Gore
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Surf Punk artist Tooth Gore from the UK. Check out this artist and follow him on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the project name, you planned it or did it just come out like that?
The name Tooth Gore came from my love of horror media. It was something that a person brought up in my A-level film class to describe when people get their teeth injured in horror movies. I thought it sounded cool and gross so of course I picked it.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I have always loved punk music, having grown up on Green Day, The Clash, Ramones, and Weezer. My interest in surf punk came from hearing West Coast by FIDLAR on the soundtrack of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 remake/ Through FIDLAR I discovered a band called The Frights - since lead singer of FIDLAR Zac Carper produced many of their albums - and saw how they combined reverb heavy surf rock guitars and melodies with the punk genre and decided I wanted to do that.
3. Who plays what in the project?
I play guitar and sing in Tooth Gore, I play the drums and bass off my Macbook Pro, however, I also recorded the bass originally. The drums were played by Ross Rothero-Bourge in The Cube Studios.
4. Who is your favorite band?
For me, it's hard to pick a favorite band. My top 5 are The Frights, FIDLAR, PUP, Jeff Rosenstock, and Joyce Manor. However, if I had to pick I’d say The Frights take the cake.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I tend to write songs inspired by my feelings of anxiety and depression.
6. Where was your last gig?
My last gig was at The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town in London. I really enjoyed this one.
7. Where would you like to play?
My dream would be to play at the Electric Ballroom in Camden.
8. Who would you like to support?
I would LOVE to support FIDLAR. I think their tours and shows look really fun.
9. Who not?
TBH I would support anyone if it means I get to play my music to people.
10. Have ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
I never really suffered from stage fright, I kind of have the opposite, where talking to people off stage terrifies me, but playing music on stage just feels so freeing and comfortable.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
The Frights and FIDLAR have inspired me sonically the most, I love their surf punk sound.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I’ve never really had a situation like this (so far J).
13. What do you think of your fans?
My fans are great and really supportive, even though it's a small fanbase at the minute.
14. What do you think of our site?
I love the site, it's amazing to have a site showing support for alternative music.
15. Something to add?
Thank you for asking me to do this interview.
