Behind The Artworks: Mandy Mandala - Mandy Mandala (2025)

This is the story of Amanda Von Treiss, tortured and burned as a witch in the year of 1563 in southwestern Germany.

As she died, Amanda was left in limbo and suffered hundreds of years of torturing silence with the burning repeating itself over and over again. One day, a shadow presented itself before her; it was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The Tree spoke to her and told her that if she could withstand all the 9 circles of Hell, she would gain the right to resurrection and the chance to have vengeance on those who did her wrong. Amanda immediately agreed and began the trials, and with much bravery, and blistering vengeance in mind, she fought her way through Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery.

After succeeding with the trials, the Tree granted her resurrection.

But Amanda von Treiss was dead.

She died that night in that vicious fire in that forest.

She now entered the earth in another shape and form.

The year was 2025.

She came from the Netherworld to slay every last relative of those who had done her wrong.

She came as Mandy Manala.

The character of Mandy is something we want to build a lore around. Amanda means ”lovable,” and Manala is the word for the underworld/hell in Finnish. Manala is also an Arabic woman’s name, which means ”accomplished woman”.

On the album cover, Amanda von Treiss has changed shape into Mandy Manala and entered our world along with her snake. She is now out for revenge on those who’ve done her wrong.

We were very inspired by how record covers looked in the ’60s and ’70s. There was always this automatic yet unspoken gloom over these records. So we wanted to recreate that with Mandy in some way.

The photographer's name is Peter Rosvik, and the snake's name is Ralf.
