Interviews About Albums: DRKNSS - Six Degrees Below The Horizon (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Portuguese Gothic Rock band DRKNSS to ask questions about their album, "Six Degrees Below The Horizon".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

This EP was a natural step to take in order to challenge our music even more.

When you've been among humans for half a century, you have to do something special that will mark you forever, like a tattoo.

And so began my journey to unsettle all the members of the bands I've been a part of since I started in music.

We rehearsed three songs from each band and created a journey through time. The Darkness was my first band when I was 19.

After this great anniversary/concert, things naturally developed, and before we knew it, we were working on/deconstructing the old songs and starting to give them a new life.

This life was materialized in our CD "The Darkness. But we had to take another step, and that's the step we took:

giving a younger generation our songs and giving them complete freedom to deconstruct and then materialize their vision in our songs.

That is how the new EP “Six Degrees Below The Horizon” was born. A set of 5 tracks, 4 of which are remixes and the last a new track.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

“Begins in the morning, or ends in the evening, when the geometric center of the sun is 6 degrees below the horizon.

Therefore, morning civil twilight begins when the geometric center of the sun is 6 degrees below the horizon, and ends at sunrise”.

This is the definition, yet your imagination is infinite

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

The songs are original DRKNSS songs. However, the remixes were made by:

Theme 1 - Innocent And Pure remix by Gwen Basurah!
Theme 2 - The Dance (Origins) DRKNSS remix
Theme 3 - Fields Of War remix by David Reis
Theme 4 - Find My Soul remix by Order in Chaos
Theme 5 - We can't disclose it yet

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

It's extremely difficult to choose a favourite from these remixes. They are all so different and at the same time unique, all of them brilliant in their own way.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

We don't have any specific message on this remix EP.

But we do have songs that have mutated/evolved, and transformed over more than 30 years.

Our music has its own universal and timeless language. It passes on emotions, thoughts, and stories and touches the soul in a profound way.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

I personally really like a section of the Fields of War theme:

“What have you done! What have we done!
Look in to the sky, we could end when it began.
My silence sings an endless song.”

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

The songs were all composed in the 1980s, when we were young and had a different perspective from today.

They were composed in a different life, in what we felt and everything that surrounded us.

30 years later, we look at the songs and lyrics in a different way, but we had to immortalise this piece of work and move on to a new musical chapter.

8. Something to add?

We want to thank you in particular for giving us the opportunity to give voice to our musical work.

We have the album ‘The Darkness’, which was released last year by Ethereal Sound Works on CD and which we are still promoting and playing live.

And now we'll soon be releasing our EP ‘Six Degrees Below The Horizon” where you can already hear the track ‘Innocent And Pure’ on your favourite platforms.
Stay tuned, there's another track coming out next month.
