Interviews About Albums: Old Neon - Resolution (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Pop Punk band Old Neon to ask questions about their album, "Resolution".

1. Tell us about your upcoming EP Resolution.

It was a culmination of everything we had experienced in this band together, and the desire to level up our sound - we came out of a period where nobody was really getting along, and we didn’t have much of a direction, but this was something we all rallied around

2. What is the meaning of the title?

Resolution is about a resolve to stick together in spite of our vast differences and have each other's backs

3. Talk us through the writing process. Who does the majority of the writing within the group? Is it a collaborative effort?

The writing process varies but generally starts with a germ of an idea from one member that we all kind of put our mark on individually, whether that be through rewrites or with our own instruments Nobody’s Burden was a demo from Bea thay Drew put lyrics and a melody to that we all kind of finished the bridge for in the room together, for instance. Generally it’s one person's demo that we all add to.

4. What's your favorite song on the EP?

My favorite song (Sean) is Better Son. It’s about my uncle dying very young and how much that has haunted me

5. Is there a special message you were trying to convey? If so, what is it?

I was just kind of languishing in the sense of doom and dread that I carried with me for years. When a close family member dies young, and you are young yourself, you tend to have a sense that death is on your shoulder. It looms large.

6. Tell us about your favorite lyrics from the EP.

From the same song: I’ve got a resolution to keep myself alive. Basically, it was a breaking of the shackles of that doom I carried on my shoulders. It was a line in the sand where I decided to stop living in a destructive manner, assuming death was coming, and simply make a pact with myself to live.

7. Tell us about the inspirations behind the EP, both musical and otherwise. Is there anyone in your lives who's been especially important to the creation of this EP?

As stated above, those big, traumatic life events were a big part of the writing process and how we process pain as humans. In that, my uncle was a part of it. On a more grounded level, Matt Brasch was a part of it. He helped us write, he was the producer, he kept us moving, and he took great care of us!

8. Anything else you'd like to add?

Yeah, please, please, please follow us on any social you use @oldneonmusic everywhere
