Interviews: Stereophobia

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Metal band Stereophobia from Portugal. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out like that?

The idea for Stereophobia came from a list of names rejected by another friendly band; the name was right at the bottom of the list that no one wanted or liked, and I thought it would make symbolic sense for what I was creating at the time, so I picked the rejected name.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I think it has a lot to do with my influences in my most innocent phase as a teenager. Grunge, Alternative metal, or nu metal always aroused strong emotions and captivated me 100%. I realized that it was a different and honest way of expressing what we felt.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we basically already knew each other from other projects. I met Bruno, the bassist, through a solo project from this singer we met at the time, and Dany, the drummer, I met through a cover band we played in many years ago.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

My favourite bands are Staind, Seether, and Korn. Bruno's favorite bands are Tool and Sepultura, and Dany's are Dream Theater and Slipknot.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I have countless inspirations and/or influences. I don't think I have a particular or linked inspiration; these songs were written with the need to express the burden I have carried through the years, and the sound is composed of a mix of musical influences that I have absorbed over the years.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at a small local venue here in Portugal called Hollywood Spot at a festival with three more bands. Awesome show, awesome crowd.

7. Where would you like to act?

The place I would most like to play with the band is at the Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

That´s a hard one, there are so many artists that it would be an honor to play with, but without thinking too muc,h I have to say Jonathan Davis from Korn.

9. Who not?

I don't know, I never thought much about it. Sometimes incredible things happen when the most unexpected genres merge, so I'm always open to new scenes.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Well, I'm not exactly the best influence with the best advice in this area. I suffer from anxiety, signs of manic depression, and many times I depended on alcohol and other substances to numb myself and face the public. These days, things are more controlled, but if I could give some advice, it would be for the person to get on stage, have fun, feel more, and think less.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

And another one that is difficult to answer concretely, but the bands that influenced me were, above all, those that made me genuinely feel and let myself get involved in the music and the emotions present without filters and fears of exposing myself. Some examples are Korn, Deftones, Staind, Seether, Cold, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, and so on.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I don't know, I don't think we've ever had an episode that stood out in that sense. Everything goes within normal parameters, at least until now.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I think of our fans or followers as an extra strength, with affection, respect, and gratitude for supporting us and being part of our "family". However, I often say that I don't make music for others, I make it for myself and out of a need to express my feelings artistically, and if there are people who identify with and/or appreciate our music, that makes me very happy and grateful.

14. What do you think of our site?

I didn't know about the Breathing The Core website until our label told us about it, but I've already explored it and it's incredible. I think it's great to support the bands and promote them, great work, really awesome, congratulations!

15. Something to add?

We will be coming out with a new Album this summer, August 25, 2025, so be on the lookout for that. We are really excited about it; it will be a dense, introspective, heavier album, so stay tuned!
