Track By Tracks: Bell Of Mimir - Nocturne (2025)

1. Nocturne:

The story in the song “Nocturne” is cinematic. The atmosphere around the story is quite classical doom doom-oriented. The events take place in some unspecified location with liminal features, probably after some kind of ritual or summoning. On the other hand, it can also be defined as prophetic vision. Probably both depictions can and are to be true.

Main personage in “Nocturne” are the seer. This scene pictures the vision throughout the song and reflects the emotions experienced during the encounter. There seems to be some otherworldly being that appears to the seer. This being possesses features that, on the other hand, lure the seer and, on the other hand, inflict emotions of awe and fear. The seer observes an irresistible need to approach this being that appeals to the mortal needs of the seer. There seems to be a necessity and need to surrender one ́s entire life for this being, which the seer in fact does. Although there is fear and repulsion, there is also beauty and fascination. The encounters are beyond comprehension, but there is also a deep understanding of them. All these and the shivering feeling of value and meaning give the reason to the seer to call the experience sacred.

2. Dark and Silent:

At the beginning of the song, the "sword" is raised against the chest of the main character of the story. In the song, this person is engaged in a conversation between his past and his future. The narrative gives direction to the final conclusions he perceives through the events that have occurred in his life.

After traversing the terrain of numerous sufferings, struggles, and misfortunes, but also of world-embracing love and happiness, the protagonist of the story discovers that his life has been rich but dark. He has been inclined to sacrifice his life in the face of something greater, but his loyalty led him astray.

He finds out all this just now, at the end of his life. Realizing that he can achieve balance in his life only when everything is over. He decides to accelerate the realization of that goal, and the solution is in silence.

3. Spell of Doom:

This song marks one of the distinctive features of BELL OF MIMIR ́s compositional characteristics. The chord structure is particularly complex. The advantage is that the listener doesn't even notice this, but can just focus on the listening pleasure, without noticing anything "strange".

This song is mainly about swearing an oath, a vow to “the great doom”. The song takes the listener to a place that could be the source or birthplace of all artistic work. At the borderline, elements that make up the doom are observed. These are sort of the building blocks of some kind of mythical world, that is what we call “the great doom”.

The song is very personal and subjective. It is expected that everyone has their own view of this artistic reality. There is just one view and there are many such worlds. In fact, each song is a kind of microcosm of its own. The song is emotionally triggered and shows the situation and atmosphere in which we experience great emotions.

4. Folding:

Back to the cinematic style of expression. The scenery is once again very standard in the imagery of doom art. There are protagonists who are held in prison in the deepest pit that can be found or imagined. He watches while the demons are circling the sky around him, waiting for the right moment to take his soul for eternal damnation.

The protagonist knows that he has brought this misfortune upon himself by his own actions. The wise witch warned him, but he did not listen. Now he suffers the consequences of his pompous actions. In his agony and shame, he prays aloud to all the powers of the world, particularly the wise witch, to give back his life and to be set free from his earthly prison.

This song describes on a large scale the plight and sinfulness of human life. At the same time, we are chained to our world from which we cannot escape, at least not by our own efforts. We are chained to repeated failure. Demons hover above us, and we hear the voices of wise witches. But no matter how hard we try, we cannot succeed. However, we are inclined to hope.

5. Nightfall:

Although this song is also one of the compositional wonders of BELL OF MIMIR it sounds quite familiar in its tone color. The song is in fact very lyrical and very colorful. It is also very, very heavy and massive. The song is also perhaps the most melodic piece on the album. We have also combined this song with free soloing in live situations.

“Nightfall” is a simple and beautiful song. It presents a dream world where the listener can escape and forget about terrible things. Beauty, softness, and harmony are the main themes of this song. Not forgetting the meandering and captivating melodies. Listening to this song will allow you to free your soul into the night.

This is the kind of song that should be on every album. Strength, beauty, mystery, and dreaminess. You always need something like that. Especially in Doom. Finally, it's probably no surprise that the title of the song "Nightfall" is a tribute to the best band in the world, Candlemass. Right?

6. Devil ́s Garden:

The song is an instrumental piece. It presents BELL OF MIMIR in a more artistic way and is oriented towards the style of classical music. The song was composed using improvisational means and on the fly. Karhu introduced a few simple idea motifs, and then everyone just recorded their own part, so that the song piled up on top of the previous instrument's parts, structuring it little by little. It turned out great, as you might expect.

Everyone will certainly have their own view of BELL OF MIMIR's album

"NOCTURNE" and that's how it should be. These mental images of the songs are just one way of approaching these works. We would like to emphasize that these are not the only correct ways to see the works. We believe that our view of the songs will also develop and perhaps change over time. That would even be desirable, because then the work will last better and remain listenable for longer.
