Track By Tracks: Project BC - The Third (2025)

1. God of Everything:

Masheyti: God of Everything was one of the first three songs that Santino had written for Project BC back in 2015. I (Masheyti) didn't really gravitate towards it at the time, so we shelved it for later. This was before we were called Project BC, before we had concrete members, and when we were just a bunch of 20-year-olds trying to make music for an outlet. After several years, we brought it back in, had the guys put their spin on it, and were left with something that we knew would be a new single. When I heard it again for the first time, the lyrics and vocal melodies came naturally. It's a song about raging narcissists, and I know a lot of people can relate to dealing with one.

2. Destructive:

Masheyti: Destructive came about during the recording and writing for our first EP, Dance of the Lycans. We kept it on the docket until now, because it went through about 3 or 4 different iterations to get what we wanted from it. I also had a hard time writing the lyrics for this one, as it is such a personal track. Alcoholism is a rampant illness that has affected many people in our lives, on and off the reservation, and there was a lot of pressure to capture the complex emotions that come from a loved one being influenced by something they're struggling to control.

3. Bloody Night:

Masheyti: Bloody Night is a track that was born out of pure randomness. One day, back in 2015, Santino started playing a riff, and I started to sing some nonsense over it. We just looked at each other and kept going. Just building and building on the song until we got the sexy, spooky vibe we were going for. It was pretty much written that night. When we sent it to Jalen, we knew he would add all of the flourishes it was missing and really complete it. During the recording process, I was really excited! Performing the song live, I cannot do all the multiple voices that I heard in my mind when writing the song. So, finally being able to bring it to fruition was so satisfying. It gave all the obsessive, scary, succubus vibes I was looking for.

4. Of Soil and Cedar:

Jalen: The skeleton of the song was being formed around 2021, with the intro riff being the spark that led to the rest of the song. From there, Santino helped with the structure of the song, putting together the chorus and pre-chorus. The lyrics of the song came much later, and deal with trauma and how it manifests itself in all areas of life, especially in indigenous life. The lyrics portray trauma as both something physical and intangible, something that can drive your mind to madness, but also something that physically weighs on your body. A late friend of mine passed during the recording of this song and serves as a dedication, a dirge, to them. The song heavily features sung vocals, with me and Masheyti singing together in the chorus, slightly new territory for us. The song further stretches the palette of what the band can sound like. I'm always grateful for my bandmates who help me realize my musical goals and evolution.

5. Scorn the Earth:

Santino: In a nutshell, this song is about aliens coming to Earth and taking it over. I've always been into aliens and the whole conspiracy about them. I am also into old horror movies, and I read in the Texas ChainSaw Massacre book by Joseph Lanza, that in the scene when the hitchhiker is kicked out, he smears blood on their van. The director said it kind of looked like the planet Saturn, and one of the kids in the van was talking about astrological stuff beforehand, so it was a pretty weird coincidence. He goes on to explain that in astrology, when Saturn is in retrograde, it means something bad is going to happen. As for the music part, I've always wanted to have a big sing-along chorus. I tried to cram a bunch of music stuff into this song, like a breakdown, the solo drum fill, the Iron Maiden harmony part, a soft chorus reprise, big guitar solos, etc.
