Behind The Artworks: Deathgoat - Dragged Into Realms Below (2025)
N: After the first album, I had an idea that the second album must be more gloomy and dark
than the first one, and this naturally applies to the artwork as well. I had an idea of a medieval
funeral of a small child and a grieving mother who curses god for taking away her child, while
at the same time, the child is pulled into the underworld. I do draw a little bit myself, so I did a
sketch of the idea, and the other guys gave the green light to the idea.
I’m a big fan of old, late medieval era european woodcut art and the style of drawings that
present the ”dance macabre”, plague times, death in everyday life etc… So, I started
searching for artists and from some Facebook group I got in contact with Bram Bruyneel
from Belgium who had already several years of experience in this style of drawings for other
bands. But since we had things going very slowly in the band and recording process, I
reached back to Bram only about a year later. Luckily, Bram had some time and was
interested in proceeding with the work. In a very unorthodox way, the artwork was actually
finished before we had started the recording,s so I believe it was also actually a key factor
that pushed some more grim sound to the album. Bram got quite free hands and we are very
happy with the outcome. Hopefully, we can work with him again in the future as well. Thanks
to our label Xtreem Music, his art is now spreading like a plague as well!
