Behind The Tracks: Dead Defined - Better Off Alone (Single) (2025)

After a three-year stretch of silence, “Better Off Alone” didn’t just arrive it surfaced from a place of internal tension, creative rebirth, and personal reflection. Written and recorded between school, long drives, and late nights with my dogs by my side, the song captures that space where confrontation meets clarity. I wasn’t trying to write a hit, I was trying to write honestly. That’s the thread that pulls through everything I’ve created as Dead Defined.

The track was shaped alongside one of Toronto’s top producers, with every lyric, riff, and vocal take crafted to reflect that push-pull of wanting to walk away while still hoping for something to change. It’s heavy in tone but melodic at heart, blending the post-grunge influences I grew up with and the modern rock edge I’ve carried forward.

More than just a song, “Better Off Alone” is a marker. It’s where I’ve landed after stepping back from performing live, rebalancing my passion for music with aviation school and the realities of life. It’s not about starting over. It’s about returning to what matters with intention, grit, and a clearer sense of self. This track is just the beginning of what’s next.
