Interviews About Albums: CARSEX - Human Interest (2025)
In this new interview, we sat down with the American Rock band CARSEX to ask questions about their album, "Human Interest".
1. What can you tell us about your new EP “Human Interest”?
“Human Interest” is our 3rd EP release and is our soundtrack to the chaotic times we’re currently living through right now. It’s our anger and rage at society for all the ignorant and crazy things that keep happening.
2. What is the meaning of the name for the EP, “Human Interest”?
The first song on the record, Sitting Ducks has the line: “Look at this. A deep dive into Human Interest”… We thought that first line kind of laid out what your ears are about to be subjected to. It seemed like an appropriate title for the collection of songs, which cover a variety of topics about what’s currently going on in the world.
3. Did everyone in the band contribute to composing the EP? How do you write your songs – does it start with music first, or lyrics?
We usually start with a riff or a sketch of a song and go from there. Nigel scribbles in his notepad and works on lyrics while the rest of the band works on the music. Afterwards, Nigel and I will sit down and finalize the lyrics. It’s definitely a collaborative journey.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
That’s like picking a favorite child and is very hard to do! I guess I would pick Beyond the Trees because it is different than the rest of the record. It’s a little more laid back, but it is still dark and intense.
5. Is there a special message with “Human Interest”? If there is - what is it?
I think the message of the record is anger. We turn on the news and see the world burning while we are being advertised to as we watch - and we’re pissed off about it. That said, we prefer our art to speak for itself and let the listener take away what they will.
6. What lyrics that are especially meaningful would you like to share?
I think my favorite line on the record is from Crooked Canvas: “All the lies that we’ve been taught were so wrong, so wrong.” You can interpret that as religion or politics. We’re being lied to constantly and kept in the dark about the way the world works.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this EP? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
Our inspirations are from everyday life – be it the Media, Society, or Religion. They are all to blame for our record. But we would like to thank our producer, Steve Evetts. He’s definitely a big piece of our puzzle, and we couldn’t have made this record without him.
8. Something to add that you haven’t mentioned in other interviews?
Orcas can live up to 90 years and can travel up to 35 miles per hour. 😉
