Interviews About Albums: Drab - Drab (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Heavy Rock band Drab to ask questions about their album, "Drab".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

As our debut album, it’s an example of our musical DNA, which is still growing and evolving with our new material. It also shows a wide range of influences, and every song is very conceptual.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

I first thought of the name ‘Drab’ when we were recording in an old Masonic temple that had olive drab walls. I like how the word sounds phonetically; it is blunt and to the point. I then read that it had some slang connotations in the 1500s referring to unsavory characters or street people and brothels, which gave it another interesting dimension.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

The principal songwriter in the band is the singer/guitarist, Steve Mignano.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Lonely Place seems to contain within it the full range of the band’s capabilities, and all of the ideas are executed very well.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

There isn’t any particular message, but if the band has a mission statement, it’s to produce the highest quality, thought-provoking rock music in a culture that is saturated with mind-numbing, vapid media.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

In one of our most recent singles, ‘Kill The Libra’, there is a cryptic lyrical break:

“Everything you create / Plants a seed in the mouth / Of the maw wide agape
Now pass through the mirror / There’s a book with your name / Already written in time
You’ve only borrowed this life / On tithe from the reader”

We leave it up to the listener to interpret its meaning.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Outside of the obvious musical influences you can hear, we’re also inspired by many of our friends and local artists, and even people and situations that have brought challenges our way.

8. Something to add?

Thank you for listening, we’ll be recording some new music in August so stay tuned!
