Interviews: Circling Over
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Post-Metal/Shoegaze band Circling Over from the USA. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?
It just sort of happened organically. We got to a point where we needed a band name and just sort of started tossing around Ideas and Circling Over kind of stuck. It is getting increasingly harder to come up with something that hasn't been taken or just simply does not sound lame. I also figure the sound will make the name, and the band name doesn't make the music. Also, Joe is a pilot and feels natural.
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
Joe originally put an ad out wanting to play post-metal and responded to the ad. We have evolved since then and somewhat deviated from that original idea while holding some elements of post-metal.
3. Did you know each other before forming the band?
We did not.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
We hold some common ground. I will say we all love Cult of Luna and Holy Fawn. But we all have different things we don't have in common. I know Bobby loves Neurosis, and Emma Ruth Rundle, I love Alice in Chains, Joe loves Russian Circles, This Will Destroy You, and Andrew loves stuff like Fever Ray and a lot of indie stuff. It is really fun to combine these influences.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Just the feeling of creating and sharing our art. Creating something from nothing is such a cool feeling
6. Where was your last gig?
Fort Collins, Colorado @ The Coast. It was great. Love the venue and people there!
7. Where would you like to perform in the future?
Whoever will have us! We would really like to play at some festivals.
Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?
Ryan from Holy Fawn would be awesome. Also, Chainlacing or Emma Ruth Rundle would be amazing.
8. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?
We are open to whatever and like to think we have a pretty open mind.
10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright?
Not that I can think of. I think we play better in front of people.
11. Do you have any tips for beginners on overcoming it?
Just focus on your art. Do it for the right reasons. Don't overthink it. If you make a mistake, the crowd usually only knows if you point it out. Get to a point where your mistakes even sound intentional. You will never please everyone in the room, no matter how good you are. This is truly liberating.
12. Which bands have influenced you the most?
Cult of Luna, Russian Circles, Deftones, and Towes Van Zandt
13. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
An autograph. Writing on stuff is weird to me. We will gladly do it, but it feels like "hey would you scribble on this for me!"
14. What do you think of your fans?
They are part of our existence. We love them and want to be friends.
15. What do you think of our site?
Love it!
16. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks for listening!! We have a record out on 8/8 on Braeburn Records, and we are beyond excited!
