Behind The Tracks: LEYKA - Coffin Nail (Single) (2025)

“Coffin Nail” is our heaviest track to date, showing significantly stronger deathcore influences compared to our previous songs. This is also reflected in the vocals: due to the song’s brevity and intensity, we deliberately chose to omit clean vocals.

Our songwriting process typically begins with the guitars — and that was also the case with “Coffin Nail.” The core idea developed around the main riff, which is especially defined by its distinctive pull-off motif (00:00–00:21). It quickly became clear that the song delivered much more impact in Drop G than in our usual Drop B tuning.

As the track progresses, we put a stronger emphasis on rhythmic elements — for example, in the second verse riff (00:22–00:33) or in the breakdown starting at 01:48. To create a smooth transition from the fast, chaotic verse into a more expansive chorus, we intentionally reduced the complexity of the guitars and shifted the focus toward the vocals and orchestral backing tracks (strings and choir).

The first half of the song is fast and intense. To give the breakdown even more weight and heaviness, we slowed the tempo from 180 to 110 BPM — allowing more space for both drums and vocals.

The lyrics reflect the growing presence of right-wing populist rhetoric and the erosion of social values that currently plague our society. While the instrumental delivers fast, aggressive riffs and driving drum patterns, the vocals express raw anger toward the current state of affairs.

Together, “Coffin Nail” is a powerful reckoning with exploitative billionaires and neoliberal politicians — those who incite blind rage while evading any sense of responsibility. It’s a call to action for those who are fed up with the destruction of our environment, and with being robbed of our empathy, our resources, and our future.
