Interviews: Marble Ghosts

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock/Metal band Marble Ghosts from Canada. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or come out just like that?

Originally, we had a song called Marble Ghosts (now called False Heroes). Adam, our guitar player, thought that it would make a really cool band name. Before this, we hadn’t been able to decide on a name that everyone liked. We sort of liked We Shall Never Sleep, but the acronym looked like it belonged on a local news station, so that was dropped. It didn’t take long for us to agree that Adam was right about Marble Ghosts. It works perfectly, too, because it fits the overall theme of the band in terms of pointing out historical and present-day wrongs and not allowing ourselves to be ruled by the ghosts of the past.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We love hard rock and metal because you can have moments that will blast an audience with heaviness, but mixed with melodic bass, guitar, or vocals, you can also really create beautiful sounding music. We also love the energy that comes from playing music where the crowd and band can feed off of each other, especially when a pit forms. There’s nothing better than watching one form and knowing your song got them there.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Our current bass player and second guitar had worked together previously (not musically), but the original lineup of the band was built using Facebook and a site called Bandmix (highly recommended).

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Dylan: Alice in Chains

Adam: Bullet for My Valentine

Jer: Dream Theater

Paulo: RHCP

Paul: Children of Bodom

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Dylan, our singer, wrote the lyrics and came up with the concepts. He has very strong views and convictions. The inspiration comes from all the disharmony in the world. In seeing marginalized communities and individuals whose fundamental human rights are threatened, Dylan is inspired to uplift and empower these communities through the band's message.

6. Where was your last gig?

The Brass Monkey in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was on the night before the release of our 2nd EP, the Greatest Divide.

7. Where would you like to act?

A European or South American tour would be incredible. Our bassist is from Brazil, and he said the crowds there are full of passion for live music. The shows there bring a massive turnout and energetic, wild fans. He played in front of 15000 people once, and it was insane! Locally, we would love to play Bluesfest, which sees huge international and Canadian acts play every year.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Foo Fighters/Breaking Benjamin/Our Lady Peace

9. Who not?

Trapt, Kid Rock. They wouldn't want us anyway!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

To beat stage fright, be very well practiced. Practice like you are going to play. Look at every show as an experience and an opportunity to learn but also an opportunity to have fun. Sometimes a single beer can take some of the edge off, but don't go overboard.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Dylan: Nirvana, Our Lady Peace, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains

Jer: Metallica

Paulo: RHCP

Adam: Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine, AFI

Paul: The solo work of Jeff Loomis

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We haven't had anything weird yet. Just the usual signing CDs, shirts, and we also signed a guy's chest once.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Loyal. We have had the same people come out to a lot of our shows.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's a great way for people to learn in-depth facts about their favourite bands. I like the feature where artists discuss the meaning behind their artwork.

15. Something to add?

Thanks for checking out our music and to Breathing The Core for featuring our music and band!
