Interviews: Mysteryxmeat

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Goregrind band Mysteryxmeat from the USA. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?

The band name was derived from the Married with Children episode that had anthrax on it. They are trapped in the house, all snowed in, and raid the fridge only to find Mom’s mystery meat. Once the boys eat the meat they start tripping out then jam. It’s kinda been tucked in our singer Clint’s back pocket for a while and we finally found an opportunity to use it.

2. Why did you choose to play this genre?

This might answer a few of the questions here but I’ve known our singer Clint for quite a long time. He’s always been known around town as a guy with insane vocal skills but he never had a solid band around him to showcase his styles. I (Austin) made a post on FB one day about putting a band together and it just took off from there.

3. Did you know each other before forming the band?

We were all in different Houston bands or projects at one point so we’ve known each other for quite a while now. Definitely admired from a distance but we all finally found a window where all of us were available for something new and made it happen

4. What is each band member's favorite band?

My (Austin) personal favorite band has to be Steely Dan. Ethan (drums) is a huge Slice The Cake fan. Manuel is a big bass nerd so anything Tool or Primus or APC. Clint loves all things obscure and underground from goregrind to grindcore to brutal death metal. Shout out to our friends in Stabbing, Architectural Genocide, Necrogilistic Anomaly, Noisy Neighbors, Fupa Goddess, Deflowered, Apocalyptic Noise Syndicate, Cocaine Titans, any band Colby is in, Incarnate Dystopia, and Virulence

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I (Austin) like to sit in bed nude and write out songs in Guitar Pro while I watch the 90s hit sitcom Home Improvement. Something about a good Hideyho, Neighbor puts me in the mood. Once riff ideas are sketched out we start demoing and playing the songs together to get a feel and get them to their final arrangements.

6. Where was your last gig?

We just got back from a one-off gig in Tampa, FL, at The Brass Mug with Putrid Pile. It was an amazing experience. Shout out to my Vile Productions family for making it happen.

7. Where would you like to perform in the future?

Our number one goal as a band is to play Obscene Extreme Fest. Maryland Deathfest and 70000 tons are also on that list. Would love to get to tour Europe as well.

8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?

Would absolutely love to collaborate with Michael McDonald.

9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?

Heck, nah, we would collaborate with anyone as long as the vibes are there.

10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips for beginners on overcoming it?

Absolutely! Stage fright or nerves are a killer. Minus Ethan (he’s a sober boy) we take the edge off with a beer or so to loosen up. Just try to vibe to the bands before you to get yourself going and just don’t overthink it.

11. Which bands have influenced you the most?

Personally (Austin) Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, Gutalax, Guineapig, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and (early) Deicide

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

So… one time, coming off stage had a nice lady asked for a pick. Of course, handed her the one that was used last and apologized for the sweat. She responded with “That’s okay, I like that” and shoved it into her mouth. Very unsanitary.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans. Anyone who wants to come out to a show and dance with us and groove, and have a good time is always welcome.

14. What do you think of our site?

The site is cool! Love what you’re doing for the scene! Every band needs places like this to help with visibility, and even as a fan, it’s a good spot to find that next band up.

15. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Thank you for letting us shoot the breeze with you! Hopefully, we can cross paths somewhere down the line again and reminisce on this
