Interviews: Night's Edge

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Metal band Night's Edge from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out like that?

Do you know the feeling you get when the day starts to come to a close, but you have a big night ahead? Maybe you’re going out on the town with friends, or maybe you have a huge performance, or maybe it’s just an important evening, like Halloween. I don’t know about you, but when the sun starts setting and I know I’m about to be getting into an adventure come dark, I am filled with anticipation and excitement; it feels like an adventure is about to begin. That moment in time, that is the feeling of being on the edge of night. Night’s Edge.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We play what we love, and we all love rock and metal. Night’s Edge doesn’t fit neatly into any one subgenre, and that is a facet of us that we are very proud of. While we take influences from gothic metal, alternative, grunge, progressive rock, and post hardcore, we are none of these things on their own. We are a weird mixture of these sounds and many more.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we all met each other while playing in other bands in the Baltimore metal scene. We were all friends and lovers of local music for years before we ever had the three of us together in one room, making music together. In a way, you could argue that some things about us haven't changed!

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Dan Hunt - Tool Damian

Remmell - Mastodon

Brian Haran - Type O Negative

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We are inspired by both the things that we experience and also the things that we see others go through or hear them express. Night’s Edge songs are not necessarily 100% based on fact, but they are not complete fiction either. They are often an exaggeration of the truth or a deeper exploration into a fleeting feeling.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at The Depot, which is our favorite dive bar venue in Baltimore. We are going to be back there a few more times this year, and we are already looking forward to it. Depot shows with the right crowd are a LOT of fun.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to play at the 9:30 Club in DC, which is a venue that most of us have gone to many times to see bands that we love. There is also a venue reopening under a new name in Baltimore now called Nevermore Hall, which we would love to play. A few of us have performed at that location under its old name, but it was in prior bands, and it would be great to get back there as Night’s Edge.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Trent Reznor. He is truly a modern musical genius, not only in his songwriting and performing but also in his production. One of the greatest producers of all time. One of these days, we will catch NIN live!

9. Who not?

I don’t want to single out any one person and someone who we would or wouldn’t work with. We’d be pretty open to collaborations from all kinds of different artists! As long as they’re not a head case. I’m not going to name names, but I’m sure you can think of a few.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

We have been performing for so long that even remembering what stage fright is like feels hard to do, but for any beginner,s the classic advice is the best advice - pretend you’re playing in your basement, garage, or wherever you practice, and focus on your craft and not on the audience.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We have so many different influences and bands we love. We’re not going to restate any of the ones we have already said so to throw in some new ones, Linkin Park is a big influence, so is Pink Floyd, and Late 90s, early 00’s AFI.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We never bring paper to write our setlists on at shows, so we always end up writing on either paper towels or toilet paper. (Side note - that’s how you know if you’re playing a nice venue, if they’ve got paper towels). Anyways, we had written our setlists on toilet paper at this one venue, and after our set, a girl asked if we could sign our setlist and give it to her. We explained that it was written on TP, but she was unfazed. About a week later, she tagged us on Instagram. She had framed it and hung it up on her wall.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Ya’ll rock, keep hanging up our toilet paper setlists! No, seriously, though our fans are the greatest; they elevate the vibes of our shows with their dancing, moshing, and general shenanigans.

14. What do you think of our site?

It is reminiscent of early/mid-2000s music blogs and websites, which is really cool. We miss the days when you could log onto a heavy metal website and just scroll through whatever the reviewers had been listening to that week, or hear about niche bands from the other side of the world. I guess you can do this on social media too, but it’s just not the same.

15. Something to add?

Just a plug for our new album! Our fourth LP, “The World That Never Was,” is dropping on August 21, 2025, and it is packed full of grand melodic metal dipped in alternative vibes and smoked in a gothy fire. It is a wild ride and definitely worth listening to front-to-back. We really think listeners will enjoy it and that it offers an experience unique from pretty much everything else out there right now.
