Interviews: Rhygor
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal/Groove Metal band Rhygor from Poland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? You planned it or came out like that?
Initially, we were supposed to play under a different name, but it turned out that it was already taken by another Polish metal band. I think Michał suggested the name Rhygor - I liked it because it sounded strong. Besides, Rygor (without the "h") means discipline in Polish, which we lacked a bit at that time:)
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Metal has always beat in our hearts, so there was no option to play any other genre of music:)
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Grzegorz: I knew Michał for many years, and many years ago, we tried to create a band together. It didn't work out then, but now we had more determination, and when we met Olgierd, Rhygor took on a real shape.
Michał: It was like he said
Olgierd: I actually met the guys (Grzegorz and Michał) at a rehearsal. They replied to an ad on Facebook that I was looking for a band as a vocalist.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Grzegorz: It's hard to name one or even three favorite bands when you listen to a lot of different genres of music. I recently went to a concert of King Diamond, who was my number one in my youth. When it comes to metal, I like classics like Slayer or Iron Maiden, but I also love Dillinger Escape Plan, Meshuggah, Slipknot, and all incarnations of Mike Patton
Michał: if I have to choose only one - Death :-) or Meshuggah…
Olgierd: There are a lot of them, as well as a lot of music genres I listen to. If I have to choose only one... Lamb of God
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Grzegorz: When I pick up a guitar and create riffs, I don't really think about where they came from, although later I hear that I can probably hear Slipknot, Pantera, or just my mood:)
Michał: I look for inspiration in all the rhythms that I have heard and that sit in my head. I don't create from scratch but work with Grzesiek's ideas.
Olgierd: For me, as a vocalist and creating vocal lines, it's about searching for sounds and melodic lines. Here, I always try to look for inspiration wherever I hear something interesting and intriguing. Lyrics, on the other hand, are a different process. Here, I always try to focus on man, humanity, and aspects of our human nature.
6. Where was your last gig?
We have not yet had the opportunity to play a concert. We are currently working on material and a concert set, which will definitely also be released as an LP. We want to close the composing process as soon as possible and start presenting ourselves to a wider audience, and start a concert series as soon as possible.
7. Where would you like to act?
For this moment, we definitely want to organize the first concert in our hometown, Olsztyn, and then we will definitely start with concerts in Poland.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Our dream would be to play on stage with the greatest bands. To have the opportunity to exist and present ourselves to the widest possible audience. But seriously... We are always ready to play with anyone for whom music is a passion, and it is for him a dialogue with the audience.
9. Who not?
We certainly would not want to be on the same stage with bands spreading hate speech, discrimination, or ideologies associated with totalitarianism. We want to be as far away as possible from such messages and content.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
It seems to us that stage fright affects everyone. Even the biggest ones. Everyone certainly has their own ways to overcome it. Sometimes it gives us a positive “kick”, sometimes it can cause a little stress. Then we try to focus on positive energy and support each other, so that each of us can overcome stage fright and give our best in front of the audience. We want the audience that comes to our concerts to enjoy the best show.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Grzegorz: That's a tough question though. I like melody and at the same time brutality in music. I love Devin Townsend:)
Michał: Not so much the bands as the drummers: Sean Reinert, Gene Hoglan, Richard Christy, Tomas Haake, Brann Dailor.
Olgierd: Greg Puciato, Mike Patton
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
For this moment, no one has asked us to do something weird, but... We hope that such a moment will come, and as much as possible, the weirdest requests from our fans will appear as well.
13. What do you think of your fans?
First of all, we are happy to share the music we make with others. For now, we don't have a lot of fans, but we see their positive reaction to what we create. We hope that in the future we will be able to reach more listeners who like what we compose.
14. What do you think of our site?
We are impressed! It is very important that there are people, zine portals that spread culture in society. We are grateful to you for undertaking such an important mission and, above all, for putting a lot of effort into promoting young and new bands. Keep it up!
15. Something to add?
Listen and look forward to our album. Support portals and zines with information about music and underground bands. You are the driving force behind the music underground.
