Interviews: Sapiency
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Death Metal band Sapiency from Germany. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
We were looking for a short and concise name, and Motörhead was already taken, and there wasn't much else to
consider
2. Why did you want to play modern metal?
From the very beginning, we've had diverse musical influences from various metal genres, and we've always had
modern metal influences. Our recent releases have been heavily focused on melodic death metal, and the change in
vocals provided the opportunity to further develop our music and present ourselves in a more modern and fresh
way without losing our roots.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We've been around since 2009, and since then, we've had many lineup changes for a variety of reasons. Of the
original lineup, only Holger and Rene remain today. They founded the band and had previously played together in
various bands.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Melis (Vocals): Halestorm
Silas (Vocals): Bring me the horizon
Hendrick (Bass): The black dahlia murder
Jonas (Drums): Cypecore
Holger (Guitar): As I lay dying
Rene (Guitar): Novelists
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Life itself, the passion for music, and being able to process yourself and your emotions.
6. Where was your last gig?
Near Wuppertal (GER) in a small but nice live club.
7. Where would you like to act?
We’ve been lucky enough to play many amazing concerts over the years, including support shows for many of our
idols and performances at some incredible festivals. There are countless amazing venues and festivals all around
the world – ideally, we’d just travel the globe and rock the stage wherever we’re inspired!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Spiritbox, Poppy, Novelists, for example
9. Who not?
With bands that hold intolerant or dehumanizing views.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
We all still get stage fright – it’s just part of the process. If it ever went away, I’d start worrying, because it shows
that the performance and what the fans expect from you really matter. It’s a sign that you feel connected to your
audience. As for tips, it’s not that simple, because everyone has their own way of dealing with it. What’s important is
that there’s open communication within the band, and that you support each other. Stage fright can then become a
positive force that helps us engage with the audience in a more authentic way.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
In the early days of the band, we were heavily influenced by bands like As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, In
Flames, and many Swedish melodic death metal bands. These artists had a major impact on our songwriting
process at the time. Over the years, our sound has evolved, with new influences, different musical styles, and
lineup changes shaping each phase of our journey. More recently, we’ve drawn inspiration from a wide range of
artists – from Poppy and Spiritbox to Bad Omens, as well as Halestorm and heavier acts like Thrown or Chelsea
Grin, for example.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
For now, most of our fans were pretty normal. There hasn't been anything really crazy yet. Most times, they just
want autographs and pictures.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We think that fans are the fuel that keeps a band running, and they’re the basis for every successful band.
14. What do you think of our site?
We’re truly grateful for Breathing The Core’s support of emerging bands. Their fast, professional coverage and
focus on the stories behind the music help us reach new audiences and give our releases more depth. It’s amazing
to be part of a global platform that connects so many artists from around the world.
15. Something to add?
Thanks so much for the great interview!
