Interviews: Soul Reborn

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal project Soul Reborn from Italy. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or just came out like that?

The name is a consequence of my situation. It had been a few years since I wrote anything, and I made the decision to make a one-man band, all by myself, burdens and honors. It was like a rebirth and so the name Soul Reborn reflects that turning point and that moment.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I'm 50 years old and I've lived the whole movement. I was maybe 8 years old when I heard Iron Maiden and from then on it was normal to listen to more and more bands of every genre. Today I play death metal contaminated by many influences because I've never really stopped at just one genre, I find it very experimental and innovative and it's the most suitable genre for the themes I deal with. And then I simply like it too much.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

As I said before, mine is a one-man band. I take care of every aspect, from writing to production to artwork. The only external aspects are the singer, and here Gonzalo Viviani did a wonderful job and the mastering. On this record, I am lucky and honored to have Ackle Kahney of Tesseract as a mastering engineer.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Too hard to choose just one band. I loved Death, Megadeth, Pantera, Sepultura, Morbid Angel, Carcass, Meshuggah, but also more modern bands like Aborted, Ingested, and Suicide Silence. I also listen to a lot of fusion and jazz so it would be unfair to say "This is my favorite band".

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Regarding the musical side, riffs and ideas come to me even in the most unexpected moments because I always have music in my head. But I think the most important inspirations are the situation in which this world finds itself and the suffering of people. I am one of those people who cannot close their eyes to social injustices and I believe it is our duty to at least be aware of those people who are truly worse off than us. Mental disorders and existential problems are another inspiration.

6. Where was your last gig?

As I told you, it's a one-man band, so zero live.

7. Where would you like to act?

I would have loved to play in any big festival with many bands. I would have had the honor of meeting my idols and incredible musicians.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Oh, the list is too long, really too long, with anyone who can make me grow musically and humanly.

9. Whom not?

I should meet the artist in person before judging him. I don't like to talk about things I don't know.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I remember my first life. Until the day before I was very calm but on the morning of the concert I was overcome by nerves. I closed myself off and thought "Hey this is a great thing so why don't you think about having fun?" The first few songs I was a bit blocked but, once I loosened up, I simply enjoyed the evening.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There are too many but I think Death and Messhuggah are essential and have influenced almost everyone.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Since I don't do live shows I don't have many fans. I'm always surprised when someone compliments me.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I think that anyone who dedicates a few moments of their life to listening to my music deserves my greatest respect and thanks. You must not take anything for granted and be grateful.

14. What do you think of our site?

I think it's a great site. The fact that you give space to bands like mine is a credit to you and you deserve everything.

15. Something add?

Thank you for the opportunity you gave me. I also thank all the people who support me and give me the motivation to continue doing what I like. Always listen to music, whatever it is, because music does not betray and can take you anywhere. And as always, stay calm and live well.
