Behind The Tracks: Roger Bacon - All My Life (Single) (2025)
‘All My Life’ started out as something we’d jam on in practice rooms and sound checks. It was Strath (singer) who suggested we turn it into a full song. It’s a bit of a musical Frankenstein, made up of ideas we’d collected over time. The verse was the original part Reuben (bass) came up with, and the rest of the band built around it. The chorus and outro had been sitting in the backlog for ages, never quite fitting anywhere—until we tried them with ‘All My Life’ and everything clicked. It’s become a fan favourite, so it made sense as the next single.
The recording took a few days. The first version didn’t turn out as we’d hoped, and we felt like something was missing. We experimented and eventually added the intro/bridge and the radio chatter—band members mumbling into a mic—an idea from our resident genius, Campbell (producer). That was the part that tied it all together.
We always aim to top our last singles, so the guitars had to be bigger, the bass heavier, the drums harder, and the vocals higher. We think we pulled it off. Our DIY approach means sourcing all our own gear and recording in an outhouse on Millport, which we think gives the sound its edge.
The guitars were inspired by a mix of Johnny Marr, Billy Corgan, and Thurston Moore—a challenge, but it led us to our own sound, which we’re really happy with. The drums and bass were recorded to sound like they’re smashing the mic, and the vocals were an unplanned one-take. It was one of those moments where you know there’s no beating that take.
We’re proud of how this track turned out. It captures the energy and personality we wanted, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear it. We had a great time making it, and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it.
