Interviews About Albums: Primal Age - Until The Last Breath (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the French Hardcore/Metal band Primal Age to ask questions about their album, "Until The Last Breath".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

XDIDIERX: We started writing it in 2023. We already had some early drafts and rough ideas for a few tracks. This time, we decided to dedicate a full year to the writing process, without playing any shows or going on tour, so we could fully focus on the album and give it our best. Masked Enemy received incredibly strong reviews, so we felt we had to push ourselves even further. That’s always the challenge during the writing phase: pushing limits, bringing in new elements to surprise the listener, while still keeping the core essence and spirit of Primal Age, that edge-metal signature.

We recorded the album at Swan Sound Studio in Normandy with Guillaume Doussaud, who also worked on our previous release. The mastering was once again handled by Alan Douches at West West Side Music in New York, who had previously worked on Masked Enemy and our 2007 album A Hell Romance.

This new album continues the path we started with Masked Enemy, but it also brings back some '90s influences. It's a diverse record that rarely gives the listener a break, much like our live shows: full of energy, passion, intensity, and aggression.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

XDIDIERX: There’s no specific meaning behind the title, or maybe just this: as long as the band exists, we’ll keep spreading the same message. And even after Primal Age comes to an end, up until the very last song we write, we’ll keep expressing our anger and our dedication to animal rights.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

XDIDIERX: For this record, we felt it was important to get back in the rehearsal room and write together as a band. It wasn’t always easy to find the right balance; there were compromises to be made when shaping certain tracks, but we’re genuinely proud of the result. Like everything we’ve done since day one, this album truly represents who we are.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

XDIDIERX: Without hesitation: “Voiceless Ones” and “No Regrets.”

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

XDIDIERX: Yes! We revisited themes we had set aside for a while, especially animal rights. On our previous records, we explored more political and social topics, always through the lens of criticism and denunciation, for example, against punitive and hypocritical environmental policies pushed by politicians. But with this album, we wanted to return to the values that are truly important to us and that define the band’s core message: animal rights and ecology.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

XDIDIERX: Yes, from “Voiceless Ones.”

We’re sharing just the chorus here, because we hope the crowd will scream it along with us on tour. It’s meant to unite people, and it clearly speaks to our message and our fight for animal rights.

WE ARE, WE ARE We are the voice for the voiceless ones WE ARE, WE ARE End the cruelty, let love be our course WE ARE, WE ARE Their lives matter, WE ARE, WE ARE Just like ours.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

XDIDIERX: Our main drive was simply the will to outdo Masked Enemy.

I think that’s every band’s challenge: to keep surprising the audience and pushing the limits of what we’ve done before. We're proud of this new record, and we hope listeners will appreciate it as much as we enjoyed creating it. We put time, heart, and effort into every step.

We want to thank the close friends who’ve been supporting us for years, offering guidance, feedback, and encouragement. Their input is essential. Also, a big thank-you to everyone involved in the making of this album:

Greg aka Visual Injuries for the design, Guillaume Doussaud for the recording, Alan Douches for the mastering, Alex Haute Couture for the merch.

And of course, we want to thank our fans for their patience; they waited over a year without hearing from us, as we focused entirely on writing and took a rare break from touring.

We can’t wait to hit the road again.

8. Something to add?

XDIDIERX: Thanks so much for this interview.
