Interviews: Allbrook Station
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Pop Rock band Allbrook Station from the USA. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Burke Louis (vocalist/frontman): I started the project alone as a solo acoustic act under a different name. Then I started writing with Jessie, and told him I was tired of trying to find reliable bass players, and he said, “gimme six months”. He bought a bass and became my bassist. He’s one of those musicians who’s just crazy talented no matter what he does. Later, we found our drummer, Nate, and became a trio under that same name. As we met with our producer (and now guitarist Randy and started recording all the songs we’d written, we realized our name was already copyrighted and in use by another. So Jessie’s older brother (and now our in-band DJ Frank Zoo) suggested we name the project after the place where Jessie and I first met. That was a bus station in the country of Panama, “Allbrook Station.”
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
B: This sound, and our music, is just what’s 100% authentic to me. I never wanted to try to chase a trendy sound because I’d always be behind. Instead, I just decided to write music that came naturally to me and was easy for me to digest and interpret, and create.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
B: Jessie and Frank Zoo have known each other since birth, so that helps lol. Jessie and I met back in 2009 and didn’t start doing music together until 2020. So I met Frank Zoo through Jessie over the years. Nate, my drummer, filled in on drums for me at a show, and I watched him drum to Green Day’s Basket Case, and I knew he belonged in my band. Randy, producer and guitarist, we met through a mutual friend who referred him to us to produce the album.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
B: Linkin Park was my first concert and first favorite band. If I had to guess, I would say collectively as a band our favorite heroes are Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, Bring Me the Horizon, Panic at the Disco, Papa Roach, Nothing More, Bad Omens, Paramore, and a ton of hip hop.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
B: All of our songs were written by Jessie. Most of the time, we just start making funny sounds and finding melodies we like and that stick throughout the writing process, and those make it to production.
6. Where was your last gig?
B: We did an incognito show in AZ a month ago to prep us for our debut show as Allbrook station on August 26. We’ve all been performing for years, but this will be our first as this band.
7. Where would you like to act?
B: I’ll act up anywhere tbh
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
B: Pretty much every band we previously mentioned. But really, there are so many incredible artists out there, I think a hip hop, rap, country, or heavy metal feature would be so sick. Personally, I would love to do a feature with Miley Cyrus or Shania Twain and Korn, or Eminem, or Kendrick.
9. Whom not?
B: Really, anyone who doesn’t want to do it and is either doing it because they were told to by the label or for the money. I know it happens and sometimes it makes sense, but idk man, I’d rather create with someone who sees the vision and needs to be a part of it.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
B: My very first performance ever was an open mic. My crush at that time was about to leave before I even got a .my very first performance ever was an open mic. My crush at that time was about to leave before I even got a chance to perform, so I told her I was playing and that I wanted her to see it. She said she’d watch. As I got up there, I completely froze, choked, couldn’t find the right key, and in the midst of all that turmoil, she got up and walked out. SOUL. CRUSHED.
My tip: don’t invite your crush unless you know you’re gonna kill it. lol.
Real tip: I don’t get nervous for anything that I can control, meaning: my preparation, practice, discipline, rehearsal, etc. I would play in front of everyone. Play good shows, bad shows, every show. Be open to healthy criticism and be humble enough to accept help. My ideas aren’t always the best ones, but I’ve become really good at learning to hear and accept great ideas when I hear them.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
B: For me personally, Papa Roach has been killing the game for years. Same as Metallica. Always finding a way to be themselves in an ever changing industry. Artists who have been able to go the distance with their own vision is so commendable and respectable to me. That’s so impressive.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
B: a super sweaty hat I wore during a show that she proceeded to smell, lick, and then wear. I told her on stage that she probably needed to see a doctor for multiple reasons. I am a massive germaphobe. The thought of licking a stranger's sweat…
13. What do you think of your fans?
B: I think there are countless things to do with your time and money, and the fact that they willingly choose to spend theirs on us means more than I’ll ever be able to express. I’m just grateful that we have people out there who love us and our music and want to see us succeed and want to share our music with their friends and family.
14. What do you think of our site?
B: It’s great! Just went through it!!
15. Something to add?
B: I appreciate this opportunity to share a little more of my story and have the chance to talk about Allbrook Station. Thank you so much for having me.
