Interviews: Bakelit
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Rock/Electronic Art Rock band Bakelit from Sweden. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?
It’s just the Swedish spelling of the old plastic from the previous century. It’s a word that I like somehow,
can’t tell why actually. It sounds cool in Swedish, but I understand that it might sound weird for native
English speakers.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I have always done it. OK, I’ve played a lot of hard rock/heavy metal as well (with Abstract Algebra,
Candlemass, Krux, and others), but no matter what, as soon as I start to do music on my own, this is
what comes out.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Oh yes indeed, for decades! All of them, both as friends, and I’ve recorded and played with all of them
a lot.
4. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
If it’s my influences you ask about, I always get uncomfortable with that question... it varies over time,
sometimes during a short day. Inspiration? My life, I suppose? And most of all, I get a very strong
satisfaction once a song is finished and recorded. It gives me some kind of reward, which for me is
addictive, and then I just start all over again with the next song.
5. Where was your last gig?
Bakelit hasn’t done any gigs yet, sadly enough, but all of us have, of course, done a lot of gigs over the
years, and I really hope to get the opportunity to tour with Bakelit.
6. Where would you like to act?
For gigs, anywhere anyone likes our music. (I’m getting slightly doubtful about going to the USA lately
though...)
7. Whom would you like to feature with?
I am not picky in that regard, as long as we attract an audience together.
8. Whom not?
The contrary to the above.
9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
I believe everyone has suffered from that. Just be well prepared, make sure you know your gear, sleep
well, be reasonably sober, etc.
10. What do you think of your fans?
Can I do anything but love them?
11. What do you think of our site?
Very good, of course.
