Interviews About Albums: Spiral Fracture - Grace In Decay (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Power Metal band Spiral Fracture to ask questions about their album, "Grace In Decay".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

David: I can say it was a bit more labor-intensive than previous efforts. There were times when it was exhausting recording it, but we never lost sight of the feeling behind what we were doing. I think we grew a lot as a band and as musicians.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

David: It kind of has a dual meaning. On one hand it reflects the decay in society, loss of manners and the greed and me first disposition that a large amount of humanity displays, lack of patience and tunnel vision self importance a lot of people display, the other meaning, kind of the flip side is that as we age and draw closer to death, decay, you kind of learn acceptance and tolerance and an understanding that there are things out of your control and learning to appreciate the diversity of the world.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

David: All of us share an equal composition of the songs. I generally bring in riffs and ideas, and I work them out with the drums, then the bass and vocals are added by Javier and Brian, so everyone has a say in how their parts affect the other parts. We do everything old school by jamming out the tracks as opposed to using a DAW. This way, we organically sort through and compromise when needed to create a true group effort.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

David: Soul allegiance would be my pick. I feel like it's an empowering song and very positive with a gritty exterior. It's hard to play positive music in metal without sounding like Bon Jovi, but Soul Allegiance has a hint of melancholy in there that invokes a feeling of perseverance through a difficult journey.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

David: Well it's not a concept album but I think like the dual meaning of the title, there are songs that refer to the "derelicts of delusion", you know, people who are short sighted that get wrapped up in distractions of herd mentality and are quick to judge others based on their beliefs or their views and dismiss others who don't line up with their opinions and feel like the world should change to cater to them but i think true grace comes from making a stand on what you believe but being open and accepting of others feelings and point of view and being respectful to those who don't share your point of view.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Javier: Hold on and breathe in life. Life needs you; it knows who you are.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, or someone you'd love to thank especially?

David: I don't have anything else to add other than I enjoyed making this album and being able to do it with such good people and talented musicians.

Javier: I don't think I was inspired, but more troubled by the world around us and felt a need to musically call out things in life that have degraded our sense of honor, trust, and respect for another human being. Each of us has an obligation to love and honor everyone, and we all have fallen short. Music seems to be the only ground left to call things out and make light of injustice, and yes, even call our own selves out.

8. Something to add?

Spiral Fracture: Thank you for the interview. We hope fans will be as excited for the new album as we are!
