Interviews: Fahrenheit Paradox
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Metal band Fahrenheit Paradox from Mexico. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?
It was partly planned. We chose the name Fahrenheit many years ago because it represents energy and is easy to remember. Later, we wanted to further differentiate ourselves and added Paradox, which was a name we were considering for an album, and thought that it matched perfectly, as it is in a way paradoxical to have both the hot and the cold coexisting on the same scale.
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
All of us are avid music listeners from a very young age, anything being played on the radio or the TV, but there was some kind of transformation when we came across metal, and then time and life did their work, bringing all of us together to make music. We love metal in its many forms, its evolution from the early days to the modern subgenres, and how flexible it is to experiment. We are constantly fine-tuning, and there are always new discoveries. There is something truly cathartic and liberating when you interpret this kind of music.
3. Did you know each other before forming the band?
Not all of us. Alex and I (Carlos) are cousins who lived in different states, but then both coincidentally moved to Juarez because of work. That is where Alex started to look for musicians for a new band, then remembered I played the piano and was in town. Time passes, and I later step up to take on vocals.
The rest of the band members joined in recent years. Piero was a guitarist we knew from the scene in Guadalajara, and we eventually invited him to join at a time when the band was preparing to tour and later compose new music; both he and our past drummer introduced us to bassist Augusto, aka Gabo, around the same time. Drummer Christian Arambul was introduced by a friend as well, around ten years ago; he left for a while because of studies and is recently rejoining.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
You put us in a bind with this question, as we like many, but to name some:
Alex is a fan of King Diamond, Evergrey and Labyrinth; Piero loves Pantera, Helloween, Luca Turilli and several bands from the recent wave of metal; Gabo is into Metallica, Pantera and Cannibal Corpse; Christian is an all-time fan of Helloween and Stratovarius, and I (Carlos) like Labyrinth, Angra and Symphony X.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We are inspired by the great film composers, and when we talk about topics we like, such as movies, books, fantasy, science fiction, and horror… flashes of inspiration pop out and become seeds we use to start drafting.
Inspiration has come in the oddest of places, once in a laundromat, a couple of them while driving, on a plane (tapping rhythms on the food tray, ha), or just as we were getting out of bed. Of course, we are also inspired to do music when we listen to good metal.
6. Where was your last gig?
The city of Tepatitlan, Mexico, hosted the last show of a nationwide tour with Colombian band Askariz.
7. Where would you like to perform in the future?
We want to play all over the world! There are too many places to choose from, but we will see, depending on where our fans take us.
8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?
Oh, the list is long, many of them being household names, and the ones we like as listeners. Actually… we already have a collaboration with one of the authorities in the metal world. Get ready because it’s coming soon!
9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?
Not really, we like to leave the door open to possibilities and unexpected fusions.
10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips for beginners on overcoming it?
Thankfully, no, as the excitement to play outweighed any fear by far.
For those beginning on this road, preparing your set is key. Personal practice and assembling properly with the other band members during band rehearsals. The core of the problem is the fear of messing up on stage; daily practice will remove many of the variables.
11. Which bands have influenced you the most?
Our collective influences range from pop, experimental, regional, classical, film scores, and extreme metal. From the metal avenues, artists like Evergrey, DGM, Arch Enemy, Metallica, Queensrÿche, Pantera, Jason Becker, Luca Turilli, and many more! All in all, our ears will always welcome music that is well-crafted and original.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nothing too weird thus far, hahaha
13. What do you think of your fans?
We see all of them as friends, and we are immensely grateful for having them. We love you guys!
14. What do you think of our site?
Your webzine has a lot of interesting information, and you play a vital role in sharing music with the metal community. Keep up the good work!
15. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks a lot for the interview. We hope to be in touch with updates on new singles still to come, from our album World of Chaos! Be ready for surprises and details about future projects!
