Interviews: Primordial Black
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal band Primordial Black from Tunisia. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? You planned it or came out like that?
It wasn’t really planned; it just came to us. Primordial Black felt like the perfect name to capture both the origins of existence and the void we explore through our music.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Because blackened metal is the only genre that carries the weight of what we want to express. It’s dark, cinematic, and ritualistic. It leaves room for both chaos and meaning.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Walid and I are the only surviving members of the original lineup. We stuck together even when things were difficult. We share a lot of influences and ideas, so it’s always been easy for us to bounce things back and forth..
4. Each band member's favourite band?
We’re pretty diverse, some of us are into Emperor, others into Ulver or Mgla, and a few lean toward Deathspell Omega or Imperial Triumphant. That blend of influences creates the tension that defines our sound.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
A mix of philosophy, cinema, and literature, but also personal experiences, exile, memory, and transcendence. Think Lovecraft, Harlan Ellis, John Dee, horror films, and the weight of our own lives.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last (and first) show was in Tunis. It felt less like a concert and more like a ritual, where our first Ep Monas Hieroglyphica was brought to life in front of an audience.
7. Where would you like to act?
Like all metal aficionados, we’d love to play European festivals but also small, dark venues where the atmosphere is suffocating and intimate.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Working with Sakis Tolis was a milestone for us. In the future, we’d love to collaborate with bands like Gaerea or Orm. Artists who share the same intensity.
9. Whom not?
Anyone chasing trends. Authenticity means everything to us.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Of course. The best way to handle it is to stop thinking of the stage as a performance and treat it like a sacred space. Once the first note hits, you’re no longer yourself; you’re the channel.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Hauntologist, Celtic Frost, Gaerea, The Black Dahlia Murder, Mayhem, and Deathspell Omega on the metal side. But also Swans and Absent In Body, who influence our more cinematic, ritualistic approach.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
None.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They’re incredible. It’s not just about people listening. It feels like they’re part of the ritual with us. They complete the circle.
14. What do you think of our site?
It’s a great platform for underground voices, giving bands like us the chance to reach people we otherwise couldn’t.
15. Something to add?
Just this: the next manifesto is on its way. It will take everything we did on Dark Matter Manifesto and push it even further into strange, sacred, and dissonant realms.
