Track By Tracks: Waves Without Sound - Escape (2025)

1. LOST:

The opening track LOST sets the tone for the album. It includes themes related to running from yourself, like a search for freedom when everything feels like it’s closing in. Musically, it’s built around a simple, clean guitar progression that repeats throughout the entirety of the song, which was interesting given the different musical shifts from atmospheric rock at the start to black metal at the end of the song.

2. BOND:

A song about surrendering to forces bigger than yourself. BOND uses the imagery of the ocean to tell a story of leaving behind a painful situation and being carried into the unknown. The particular lyrics about the severing of a bond have taken on a new personal meaning following the completion of the album. Musically, this is the first ten-minute-plus 'epic' and has one of the most ‘prog’ sections on the album, with multiple time signature changes and musical shifts.

3. GONE:

GONE is about cutting ties and walking away. Musically, it’s a bit of a ‘breather’ song in the middle of the album, with more focus on acoustic guitars and atmosphere.

4. PURE:

A bit similar to Gone, this song deals with escape from manipulative forces, but PURE is about clarity, about seeing through masks, surfacing from under the weight of others’ control. It concludes with a counterpoint vocal section, with clean and extreme vocals, that represents a kind of cathartic clarity once free of toxicity.

5. AWAY:

The closing track begins in the chaos of the city and ends in the peace and calm of the ocean. It is the second ten-minute-plus ‘epic’ on the album, a musical journey through acoustic folk, black metal, and prog, seeking to capture feelings of desperation, longing, nostalgia, and peace in both the music and lyrics. The final lyrics, 'never take away this sense of wonder and fear', capture a lot of the feelings and themes sought to be expressed in the album as a whole.
