“An American Werewolf In London, Ontario” is based on a True Canadian Legend (that we made up) about a werewolf from Michigan and his lover across the border in beautiful London, Ontario. (Not to be confused with that *other* London) Things are going great except for that thing that happens every time there’s a full moon. Chaos ensues. Law enforcement gets involved. Our heroes are separated. And the scene is set.

This song is a classic example of why you shouldn’t overthink things. I spent a long time trying to concoct a dramatic minor-key epic about star-crossed lovers, a deadly secret, and horrific, indescribable violence (that I would then attempt to describe), and it just wasn’t coming. I had this competing hook with a simple melody, “sometimes I don’t feel like myself”, and eventually it won out. For the better, I think. Everyone has a little monster inside of them that comes out and wrecks their life from time to time.
