Interviews About Albums: Oswald's Revenge - Oswald's Revenge (2025)
In this new interview, we sat down with the American Rock band, Oswald's Revenge, to ask questions about their self-titled album.
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
Andy: It’s so good that it made the devil weep tears of joy. It’s like a breath of fresh air
after having a plastic bag over your head. Even Kanye likes it.
Mike: I will say that despite Kanye’s glowing recommendation, Darth Vader and Obi-Wan
Kenobi are none too pleased by us. We played some of it for them at a convention this
past year, and they just couldn’t handle the rock.
Jimmy G: I will say that despite the fact that the Rebel Alliance and the Empire are both
against us, which does, I admit, feel insurmountable at times, I take comfort in the fact that
our music has united these diametrically opposing forces, and isn’t that what music is
supposed to do? Unite us? Let us know that we have more in common with each other
than we realize, and that those who would divide us are only strong when we are divided. I
mean, that’s the whole thing about purple, isn’t it?
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
Andy: What is my favorite cheese, you ask? Great question. I’d say a smoked Gouda or
mozzarella.. Any smoked cheese? Put it in my belly.
Mike: I don’t do great with soft cheeses. Gimme the sharpest cheddar you can find. But
smoked Gouda is a solid one too. All love there.
Jimmy G: I’m definitely also on the sharp cheese train, the sharper the better, but funky
cheeses like Bleu are also my bag, I want it to make my eyes water when I smell it. And if
you are a Funky cheese, like let’s say a Stilton, then you would title yourself Stilton
because you want people to know what they’re getting.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
Andy: Various different artists. We steal.
Mike: Yeah. We write things.
Jimmy G: When one of us is a wonderfully melodious lyricist, another makes everything
sound pretty, and then another makes those pretty things sound dirty.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
Andy: Would you ask me who my favorite child is? Because I have one, and I do play
favorites. If I had to pick one song? It’s Conga by Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound
Machine.
Mike: I second that. So incredibly hard to pick one song…But gun to my head, at the
moment…Wilson Valley “Slow Down.” Ask me again in an hour, and it’ll likely change.
Jimmy G: Impossible question, but I’ll go with three: Fast Car - Tracy Chapman, Funk 49 -
James Gang, and Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order because we play it at shows so it’s
in my head. You should come to a show and ask me again because I’ll have new answers
every time.
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?
Andy: If you listen to Glow backwards, you will hear a message from Pedro Pascal
saying he loves you. I don’t believe him, though.
Mike: How do you not believe that beautiful man? Don’t listen to Andy. Mr. Pascal’s
soulful eyes and smooth vocal tone are all the truth you need.
Jimmy G: How dare you besmirch the good name of Papa Pascal? He is to be treasured!
6. Are there some lyrics that you’d love to share?
Andy: Define love in violent ends.
Fight then f*ck then make amends.
These two lines from Turn the Lights Out just felt too real. Either that or I’m the only one that lets lust get in the way of my brain.
Mike: “I love you too, brother.” at the beginning of “IFI.” It’s not an official song lyric, but
it absolutely captures what it was like to be in the room while writing and recording this
album.
Jimmy G: “Fluent in losing its fear’s ugly doing, scared is so stupid” from Ghost. It’s one
of my favorite lines in any song ever. It’s so true, so cleverly put, and honest. I also very
much relate to it.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends,
family, someone you’d love to thank especially?
Andy: Red Pandas. I am inspired by their feisty cuteness, and each song I have ever
written is about them.
Mike: The people who tell us not to do things the way we have. The ones who say “you
can’t say that.” The ones who think the best way to do things is the way everyone else
does now or did it in the past. I love to watch them squirm when we do something and it
succeeds.
Jimmy G: Wait…. The songs are about pandas?
8. Something to add?
Andy: Nope.
Mike: Sh*t, dude…How do I top that? This is the reason why he writes our lyrics. The
consummate wordsmith.
Jimmy G: Yes, lots….
