Interviews About Albums: Soulfracture - The Leader Of The Exploited (2025)
In this new interview, we sat down with the British Death Metal/Thrash Metal band, Soulfracture, to ask questions about their album "The Leader Of The Exploited".
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
Nathan: The Leader Of The Exploited is 4 tracks of death metal at its core with all of our individual influences mixed in, so there’s some thrash in there, melodic death metal, deathcore, etc. We hope there’s something in there for everyone.
We haven’t written together as a band for 17 years since the release of our debut album back in 2007, but it all came together really easily, just like before!
Glen: Agreed, we've never fit into a particular genre, even back in our earlier years, the EP is more of the same, really, with the benefit of a more mature sounding set of songs and better production capabilities.
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
Nathan: The title of the EP is taken from the lead single, which we have just released a music video for. The lyrical theme itself is probably more true now than ever, with world leaders exploiting their own population and invading neighboring countries, murdering innocents, and killing themselves in the process. You have the world's richest man, who bought a social media platform in order to stop its push of “misinformation”, only to have it now push more divisive and dangerous misinformation than it ever did. The theme ties in with the majority of humanity being exploited for a few people’s own greed.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
Nathan: We all had a hand in writing the EP. Chris and Alex wrote the riffs, Glen wrote the lyrics, and Arron wrote the drums, but we all have input and can change anything if we think it makes the song better, etc. For example, the lyrics for Genocide Of Man were a collaborative effort between Chris and Glen. A lot more time was spent collaborating as a group this time around, which I think has helped to round out the sound of the EP.
Glen: We spent more time on this EP than we did on ‘Ashes of Existence,’ and I think that shows in the songs. Bouncing ideas off each other in the recording studio and trying different things with parts of the songs that we thought might work better was worth it in the end.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
Nathan: With only 4 tracks, it’s tough to pick! But I would probably say “Call From The Void” as I think the outro may break some necks!
Glen: Definitely tough to pick just one, I absolutely love the end of “Genocide of Man” though, Alex lays down a great solo into a pretty epic outro.
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?
Nathan: There is no special message really, we wanted to get back together and release some music again as a band, and these 4 tracks are what we came up with. There isn’t really a concept, but the theme that seems to run through all of the songs is one of humanity's exploitation and destruction.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
Nathan: There are many! But I think just for its pure hatred, the following from Genocide Of Man;
“8 billion lambs are led to their slaughter,
A mockery of mankind, forces new order,
Maggots will feed on the carcass no more,
You poisonous swines, you traitorous whores.”
Glen: I really like the chorus from Call from the Void -
“We are the choir, we are the feast, our flesh, a hymn, our minds, deceased”
It's a great song, and the chorus is one of my favorite parts.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
Nathan: I think musically we’ve all drawn on our individual inspirations when collaborating on ideas for the songs. We all have varying influences across the metal genre as a whole, and I think imparting those influences has brought something different to our current sound.
I just want to thank the rest of the guys for putting their all into this EP. Everyone who listens will enjoy it!
Glen: It's been a team effort, but I have to give Nathan a special mention for the time spent putting everything together and dealing with getting the song mixes to a point where everyone was happy. He's done an excellent job.
8. Something to add?
Nathan: Thank you for the interview, it's been a pleasure! Our EP is released on all streaming services, including Bandcamp, on the 7th of November. Check it out and bang those heads!
Glen: We've been out of the loop for a while and pretty much started from scratch, so every stream, share, or comment on the EP and our video is welcome. We hope you all enjoy it.
